CNNIC (China Internet Network Information Center) yesterday released the results of the Fourth China Internet Network Information Resource Survey, which was mainly focused on the current registered websites around the country.

By January 2005, China had 1,852,300 registered websites, an increase of 56% over the previous year.

Most of the registered domain names, about 71.6%, end with com.cn and .com. The next highest amount of domain names is .net.cn and .net, accounting for 12.5%. And the second-level domain names under .cn take up 10.5%.

Demographically, Guangdong, Beijing and Fujian rank in the top three for domain name registrations, with 16.3%, 12.9% and 11.2%, respectively.

well, I would disagree Cheap, China has recently announced the English will be the official second lang. of China. Also China is a fast moving ecnomy with every increasing standards of living, and a population of over 1Bn, China has potential to have an even bigger internet market than the US.

Hehe, as expected. From what I know as according from my China-based friends, many of them already learn different languages in school. Top ones being english, french, german etc. And as in Canada, while visiting Quebec, I know a woman from China who studied french as her 2nd language. She speaks even more fluently than me!

In China, .com is still the most popular used. Maybe we got to wait for some time before the .cn really penetrates into Chinese internet market.
