Is it illegal to have a clone of a website even if its under a differant domain name? For example:

Youtube.com cloned under a differant name as video-vault.com,

Would this bring any legal issues my way or would this be ok?

Thanks for your advice.

If it is a clone - ie direct copy, then yeah there could be some legal issues, related to the copyright of the design.

I think what the OP is asking if he could do a site with the same type of service/product as another. That is called competition in a free market.

The one thing to be careful is not to copy your competitor.

Hi there.

Ive seen a few various scripts for example | yousendit clone / youtube clone / myspace clone |

Now would it be possible for a user to purchase these and run the same site as the original, except ofcourse it wouldnt have there logo's and copyrights ect. slighly adjust the clone as not to match the original, So basicaly a competitor but under a differant name and a few slight changes?

Thanks for your inputs.

It is the difference (or lack of significant difference) that would determine copyright infringement. It is a grey rea. but wouldn't it be better to do something original and market it as your own?

Yes ofcourse.

I was simply asking if such this would be illegal, I dont intend to start any of these sites. but with these scripts being sold. i was wondering if i or another user purchases these, would/could i be invovled in a copyright law suit?

Thanks again for all ur advice.
