Clever Ebay Phish...IT CAUGHT ME!

Don't reply to any questions from bestcustomer92 about your auction ... If you look at the very nicely mocked question to seller email, you'll notice mail.zipot.co.kr ....

It only caught me because it was relevant and expected that someone would have questions and it was in proper English.

I got one earlier from someone as an invoice just didnt touch it was for a Laptop i knew i hadnt bought but there using all methods now. Just be sure to hoverover URL to see what it acyually is.

Bear in mind that even the status bar can be manipulated to show anything ... I have seen manipulated status bars both in sites (javascript) and in emails (!!!) ... right click > copy shortcut > paste in notepad is a rather more secure way (but again it might not be in future) ... of course it is rather more tedious but in certain cases that the possibility of a spoofed email is big , it can save you from a lot of trouble ...








the safest way is ...

open a new window > log-in to eBay > go to My Messages > and check the message there

if you need to respond ... click the yellow RESPOND button in the message in My Messages ... do not REPLY on an eBay email because you will send your registered name and registered email address to the receipient ... if he is a scammer he will then be able to sent you a "good" counterfeit spoof and possibly trick you to give in your password ...




if eBay sent a message it will always be in My Messages ... if it is not there it is logically a scam ... furthermore , opening a new browser , log-in in and checking My Messages is the procedure that eBay suggests for suspicious emails ...

This is the first and only time a phisher got me. I had to change my ebay email and password. Luckily, both were ebay exclusive use. I put a seriously strong password on my account. I hope I can remember it...

I guess if they email you with a similar item. they get more people that way. one of my ebay accounts gets emails atleast once a week.

from the emails I get the look 100% genuine But I know its shit as my account is inactive. do these guys who send out the emails get in trouble with the law? or is it to hard to find them>
