Clarify please. SEO domains, are .com's same as a ccTLD?

Can someone please clarify.

Not discussing the possible financial investment of a domain.

If I wanted SEO domains, would a long convoluted .com containing a keyword such as 'media' be better than media.yum for instance?

Does Google for instance recognise a gTLD over a ccTLD in the ranks. I presume it does to an extent, but it would be nice to know whether the long .com would be better than a keyword ccTLD.

Thanks very much, Howard.

For Engines, you need expensive domains. Example Google dont like the .info domains. I tried, forced this thing.. Google puted mine .info websites at the penalty position 4 years, then last week some are at the first page and first position (No ads there) But some sites Google have puted at the first page at the first week (.com and .net and contains slashes)

I completely disagree with Turrican.

Read my post here - that pretty much sums it up in my eyes. Exchange '.info' with any other CCTLD.

I personally avoid anything other than the main generic & CCTLDs but that's purely because they tend to be far harder to market unless the extension fits the domain name perfectly.

Ok thanks but...

Ok thank you, I read you post. So do you suggest a long name .com that contain(s) high hitting keywords? Or would that just get as low ranked as a single keyword .Me or .In? For example.
Cheers Howard.

Realistically, theres no reason a more obscure CCTLD couldn't be ranked highly on Google - but the truth of the matter is that it can be more difficult to get these ranked. (that's not to say it can't be done, though)

Realistically, I would only ever purchase a CCTLD for SEO if it was not only a keyword/phrase that was worthwhile in terms of organic traffic but it would also have to fit nicely with the extension. For example, newyork.us would be an excellent CCTLD but I can't see anywhere near as much value in newyork.me
