Check out this (fake) quote from Bill Gates

"Domains have and will continue to go up in value faster than any other commodity EVER known to man."

I found it on the net. I dont know if anyone has posted this before but I thought it was an excellent quote, by the foremost expert, reaffirming the impact that domains will eventually have. I figure even if your domains are crap eventually, maybe in 10 years, someone is going to want them.

I like the Chinese proverb that Frank Schilling posted:

"No matter how high the price of wheat, chaff is still chaff."

Useful domains with go up in value exponentially faster than junky domains.

yes, that's true! domain names are going to be a rare commodity soon, so the rates will surely rise! but then good domain names will have a huge rise, in comparison to the poor ones!

Hey, I think that quote is quite usable like in your domain webpage header...
Would look nice, and everyone, even people not connected with domains or even IT know Bill Gates...

btw, I agree with him on this one, more than on that other quote of him- "Windows is great"

the thing to that is, that as and when the "good" ones are getting saturated, the market is defining the next batch as "good"

Keywords to Dictionary to Geo to 3 LLL Pronounceable to 3 LLL to LLLL Pronounceable to ??? the list would keep getting bigger.

The statement is true, it's like real state sellers say buy land now because god isn't making anymore. In the end there's only so many domain names that can be created and after that well... there's nothing left.

Since when is a domain name a commodity?

I do believe they are the greatest investments at this point in time. They are a unique address, leased fully to ownership to the person or corp. as listed in the "who is".

Last I checked, they're bought and sold, if that's what you're saying. :yell:

A commodity is sugar, wheat, copper, gold, silver tea, etc. Internet addresses are not a commodity.

New domain term?

The thought behind the statement is right on.

How many of us have watched a peice of land, say a empty lot sit for years. Then it is sold for a huge amount.

That is what is happening to names. More companies and people are needing names.

How fast can a name or short set of names grow in value? It depends on the market.

Most homes in higher income areas appreciate faster than average income areas. In a similar way if the name has a better market for the traffic, the value for the domain is going to move higher.

Look at real estate names the past few years and the high ppc prices paid for that traffic. Will ppc prices for real estate continue at the fast clip or will it slow now that real estate is tanking? What about the price paid per click?. Will that price stay the same? That question may have a bearing on the monies received for the name if a person sold it. What about tomorrow, is that domain property going to go up, or is it going to stay the same or go down?

All these different scenarios play themselves out according to what the public perceives the market to be or soon to be.

The goal of a domainer is to keep his portfolio growing. Good luck to all as we will soon be on a wild roller coaster ride, it may be called the domainapult.

I am coining the word domainapult today as it very well may describe what is going to happen to many of our domains.

considering that they 'plan' to put 50% of the world's population on the internet, good domain name values should go up by TONS.

I can see LLL.com's selling for a minimum of 10k within 6 months (even zqx.com), and LL.com's getting a minimum of 500k

Sashas,

interesting point, but what do you mean " they " plan" to put 50% of the worlds pop on the net? Are you referring to the mobile phone using the .mobi ext?

by 'they' I mean the entire infrastructural machinery - governments, entrepreneurs, businesses, everyone. I'm not sure who regulates the internet (or does anyone even do that?), but it is suggested that the world internet population will increase manifold over the several years (don't we all know that already?) as less developed nations come into the picture. Granted, these developing nations might not have the purchasing power on the internet, but volume does mean higher demand.

If you even look at the YTD sales charts at DNJournal, you'll find that this year, there have been a LOT more xxx,xxx sales compared to last year and the year before that.
Even the 3character.com has a nifty LLL domain value chart - LLL.com domains have increased in value exponentially.

This would also mean that .com will assume a true halo around it. Even now .com is worth about 90% more than other extensions. I can see this pulling over to 300% over the next 10 years. Computer.com, which sold for 2.2 million at Traffic, would easily sell for 20 million in 5 years.

Yes, I agree. We are holders of property that is gaining value rapidly. What if a small percentage of those who invest in real estate see the money to be made in domains?.

Everything pushing domains in value creates a stir. As more attention is paid to names, we will be paid more.
