I think you or a new owner would need to seek permission from the Club before developing it.

I'm sure if it was developed in the right manner permission could be granted.

I wonder if .net is a positive extension for soccer domains?

Hey, a goal is a 'Net'. :)

Could fetch ยฃ100 to a true Charlton fan.

Thanks Dominic, I never thought about that. I will call the club later today to try and arrange some sort use of their logo and such.

Thanks for the other appraisals.

Greg

I am not sure that permission will be forthcoming, to be honest.
I know that Arsenal are fiercely protective of anybody using their crest and that was one of the main reasons that they changed it a couple of years ago.

I would just like to say as well ...... WE ARE IN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YEEEESSSSSSS

Next Year, for sure. :)

Actually it should be Spurs... and next year it might just be :D

- The domain is 'ok', I mean by this is you dont automatically think of the URL if you were looking for a Charlton website be only because of the .net extension.

Contacting the club is a good idea, but also have you thought about contacting any sort of fan club? Getting their backing would be good... you could even offer a column space or something? At spurs on match-days there is an 'un-official' programme that goes up for sale as well as the official one... if Charlton have something similar then perhaps get intouch with the producers of the programme/fanzine and see if you can get a few mentions by them and then in return they get some space on the site?

Eitherway good luck with it if you do decide to develop it.

I own and run a small fan site for a League 1 team. The club should not object if you are running something which benefits the club. You MUST highlight the fact that the site/domain is not officially linked with the club.

Otherwise, set up a forum and get people talking on it. It's a very targetted audience and you could promote it easily. Some do exist though:

lol, you are looking for :
1. A Charlton fan, there must be some somewhere I guess.
2. A charlton fan with ยฃxxx, hmm
3. Acharlton fan with ยฃxxx and able to run a website.
- talk about a niche market!!

Anyway, sorry. The name will get you into all sorts of problems more than likely. I think the club would probably only grant a licence to a well known active supporter, like someone who runs the official fan club or something.
I think the name could be more hassle than its worth. The best place for a name like this to sell quick and make a profit is ebay for sure. Easy enough to reach a dreamy charlton fan there. Should make mid- high $xx at least.
Good luck!

I called the club yesterday and they didnt give me any rights to use their crest but did say they are linked with various sites out there and will be happy to reconsider once my site is 'established' (corporate brush-off?). Not using there logo wont be to much of a problem for now.

Im intending on just running the site for next season and then contacting them again when we have some active forums and we're stealing there visitors :D

As for the niche market.. i have never even met a charlton fan, nuff said :P

Regards,
Greg
