Changing a Vbulletin Forum to something else?

I wanna get away from Vbulletin.

In that regard, while I wouldn't mind keeping something as a forum...I am more interested in taking the site and database and transferring it into something new and fresh, possibly in the social networking game or something like that.

My question i guess is, what are my options in regards to:

1. Turning VB into a new fresh looking forum, one that possibly has a groundbreaking mod that can do some new things.

2. Turning the VB into something completely different, possibly a social networking type site or something on the same page as one.

The site has almost 2000 members and 500K posts, but everybody has left the forum, though i'm still probably checks it every couple of days just to make sure nothing is going on.

are they any fun options for something like this?

I am looking at various forums to get ideas and was curious about your site. Also, has it been easy/hard to set up and maintain.
