I was just wondering what the chances are of hand regging a domain thats going to expire tomorrow, Its a name of a small town and not many google results for it. Its not in the top of any deleting lists or mentioned on any forums so curious if I need to backorder or just wait for it to expire and hand reg it? I don't think its worth the backorder cost...

Or backorder using Namecaptor.com - I do not know if they could really compete with major actors in the field, but it costs only $ 15.95, which makes it affordable. It seems to be a small company based in Spain. I tried them recently for three names (admittedly not domains highly desirable), and it worked for two of them, while apparently they missed the third one (let's wait and see, since they apparently still try during the tasting period).

If it's got no traffic you might be able to grab it as it drops.
Possibly a taster will catch the name then release it back into the pool of available domains after a few days.
Tip: why not use a godaddy backorder at $18.99. It often does the trick for names that are not backordered with the bigger dropcatchers like snapnames.

Is this domain name Expiring or Dropping? Those are two different issues. Honestly? even small city domain names are hard to come by - what registrar is the domain name with currently? that may shed some light on it as well.

You can try Tastedrop.com. They should be in service probably today or tomorrow.

there is a success rate. it all depends on the name- especially the # of characters...
congrats on your pickup

I managed to get a few expired domains at $7 instead of paying a drop catcher's fee. I got biologylive.com which is great as I'm building a science niche.

Let's do a contest and guess the town :).

Now that you mention this I believe Rand McNally Atlas Co. never did (in past) index any town or village under 300 population. Example: Raymond, CA.

If you REALLY want it, backorder it... best to not take chances
