Hello Everyone,

To remove the clutter and keep .CH domainers together, I feel it's better to have one thread rather than a bunch. So NNNN and LLL will be closed. Currently there are:

0 NNN for hand reg

1380 LLL for hand reg

6992 NNNN for hand reg(when I last checked a while ago).

For the benefit of this thread users, small intro on .CH

.ch is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Switzerland in the Domain Name System of the Internet. It is administered by SWITCH Information Technology Services. The domain ch derives from Confoederatio Helvetica (Helvetic Confederation), the Latin name for the country, which was used because of its neutrality with regard to the four official languages of Switzerland. CH is also is used on vehicle plates.

Also .ch can be registered by anyone, has low fee, and available at many registrars.

Are NNNN getting regged?

yes but very slowly. That list is almost a week old so things could change. I'm surprised LLL still exists, but only 7.6% left anyway.

At Godaddy you can only reg .CH for one year. To renew, you have to leave it on autorenew so at the end of the year it will automatically renew. Surprising you can't reg for 2, 3, 5 or more years in advance. Also they should try to make a free account push possible, like .nl, .bz, .io, .be and other country codes have.

I founds this and I think it's what the GD phone rep was telling me about:

https://ca.godaddy.com/domains/bulk-domain-transfer.aspx

Domain Transfers
Transfer your domains to GoDaddy — it's fast, automated and risk-free! You keep all the time remaining on your registration and get a 1-year extension at no extra charge.

I might just wait until NNN.CH are in a higher price bracket and sell several off at a time and do one big push.

I just tried to initiate a domain transfer at Godaddy for a .ch domain I don't own.

It went to checkout and the cost to proceed with the transfer was 0$.

I think this is because .ch domains can only be regged for one year, and only can renew with autorenew. So basically once you reg a .ch, you have to keep the autorenew feature on and let it renew itself year after year. If you transfer a .ch to Godaddy, it looks like the transfer is free and whatever time is left on the domain will remain, and it will renew in your account as long as you have the autorenew feature on.

I don't think there is a way for them to add another year to the registration any other way. For example, if I go into my account and pick a .ch domain, and try to add an extra year, it won't let me do it. This is a strange thing but looks to be how it works for .ch. Almost a reverse account push that has to be initiated by the buyer, but with no cost, which is great.

Thanks for the update HG, that helps quite a bit.

Funny, I tried to initiate a transfer at Namecheap for a .ch domain I have at Godaddy, and it wouldn't add to the cart. Gave this error message:

No Item added to the cart. Item(s) you are trying to add to cart are invalid or banned.

that's not good... I hope it's just something temporary. Has anyone else done a .ch transfer?

I'm trying to reach Namecheap support and will post back here what they say. I'd like to know the ins and outs of a .ch domain transfer/push.
