Does anyone have any experience with the .cc extension which is regarded as a viable and popular alternative to the .com extension?

I am just wondering, because I only noticed it just today - quite expensive tho, no?

.cc= Cocos Islands (Keeling) extension (North West of Australia)..

With regards to IDNs, the .cc is not very popular. However, you will see that all the good IDN terms (like sex, business, shopping, etc) are taken in .cc

Natural progression I guess once everything else is gone. IMO it's not worth the price.

Some nice premium .cc sales on DNJournal. Some people try to pass the extension "cc" off as "credit card", with mixed results.

Worth the gamble if you can snatch on a nice one-worder.

You can certainly get MacauPoker.cc but I'm not sure it's worth it heh... (ยฃ30.95)

The nice thing about .cc is that high quality names
are dropped completely unnoticed. Don't assume that
you can't get a high quality name for the $20 registration fee.

I consider myself a domain newbie. I recently acquired 'banking . cc' on these forums. Did I pay too much @ $850? Or did I snag a bargain?

I note that software.cc sold for $12,500 last week.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Personally, I kind of like the .cc extension. It's short, easy to remember, and the extension can be interpreted as several different terms.

But I guess it depends on what you want to do with domains in general.
If you want to register a name and park it, good luck. The traffic simply isn't there. At barely over 600 residents of the Cocos Islands, type-in traffic on .cc domains doesn't come "built in".
Not to mention the sheer number of country code extensions available.
And, as previously mentioned, the registration fee is higher as well.

On the flipside, keywords are keywords, no matter what the extension. And .cc is easy to remember, making it easier for visitors to find your site again.
Premium keywords in the .cc extension will do well, as we are starting to see from the reported sales on DNJournal. But premium keywords do well in other extensions also, so it's tough to say.

When in doubt, develop the domain.

Just some thoughts/ramblings.
