It looks if there's a lot of trade in .ws domains lately. But what really wonders me is if domains like .ws, .cc or .tv will hold there value in the next 5 years. ws is for example promoted as WebSite, but it is just a sort of paperwork country TLD. Same for cc which is the TLD of cocos-islands and .tv which stands for Tuvalu (anybody knowing where that is?). BTW the reisters of the last 2 are both Versign Companies.
So my question do you think this artificial names will stand time, or will their value collapse in time, especially now real country domains like .de or co.uk become more and more popular.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
.ws & .cc I personally avoid. .tv I wouldnt mind owning one but the reg fee is real high. They are more marketed towards the media which have very large budgets. Don't forget about .pw coming to a registrar near you shortly.

I think it will take a good while for .WS to take off, but evenually, it's time will come, in my opinion. It's a decent extension in my opinion.

.CC... I don't know why anybody would bother... I don't think this will ever improve, or get really, really bad... I think it'll keep a steady flow.

.TV... I see this domain improving a little, but nothing big will come out of it. Any improvment will be more misleading keywords for 'television'.

Iam not attracted to .ws from the beginning. Maybe because, all of the VIP domains (like sex.ws, casino.ws,money.ws etc.,) are registered when i am aware of this site.

Your not interested in this extension because all the valuable keywords are already taken?

No matter what extensions come out, valuable keywords like this will always be /reserved/ in advance, and the chances of getting this names are low, unless you have alot of money.

I have the feeling that among the ccTLDs the only one which will be considered to be one of the primary domains on the internet is .TV. Among ccTLDs it is the sole having a direct meaning, an international recognition, it is fashionable and taking into consideration broadband progress, the fact that internet is no longer static but grows more and more with interactive and dynamic content, the .TV seems to be very well positioned. In addition I would bet more on the attraction given by a .tv to the general public than the same name with .ws or .cc. Just ask around you with non-specialists and ask them to choose among cc.TLDs you will see their first reaction. See as just an exemple in the United States the real development of this extension registered by many different enterprises. Today not just the tv/video industry is registering .tv names. Although .TV reg fees are today very expensive I feel the .tv wave coming as an alternative to the stifling of the domain name market. Sure I am not a pro, for sure I am not rich, but prefer to invest my few dollars in this specific extension than in any other ccTLDS.
I do not know whether there could be a comparison between ccTLDS and real country names, ccTLDS are promoted as 'global' extensions and the others remain no matter what 'national' by definition. Keep in mind that some country names are available only for their nationals only, ccTLDS can be registered by anyone. It is obvious that the value of a domain name lays not only on its sole extension but on the quality of the name. Voila this just a personal opinion. Unless you got a good .com, a very good .net or .info, it is the big lottery but what's left in this great domain name quest is... passion !

.tv is worth, only when its possible to register those premium .tv's which are sold by .tv registry for higher price. I dont think its worth registering ordinary domains in any .tlds except, the .com's,.net's, and .org's.

See the price of www.usa.tv, or www.hollywood.la LOL.

I'd say concentrate on TLDs, if possible. If not, tread cautiously with those ccTLDs... they are hard to develop properly.

I personally think that .ws and .cc will have their day.

I'm of the opinion that any strong keyword domain can be properly marketed either for resale or search engine optimization to be top in search results.

There has got to be some strong value in sex.ws, poker.ws, casino.ws, sex.cc, poker.cc, casino.cc

Of course those values won't be nearly as strong as their dot com counterparts, but I bet you most would love to own those ccTLDs :)
