Can't register 3 Letter DN

Trying to register an available 3 letter co.uk domain name but I can't. The name is available to register both on Name.com and Godaddy.com. When I try to pay my money are refused and I get a message that says something like ''this name is reserved by the co.UK authority, top-level bla, bla...

1. Is there a way to register it?
2. What's the story with the top-level reserved names?

As far as I know, all the 3-letter domains in .co.uk are either registered or reserved.
It might be errors in Name.com / GoDaddy's WHOIS checks.

Check: http://www.nominet.org.uk/
On the right of the content there is a WHOIS checker box- enter your domain there and see if it is available.

.uk names are usually cheaper from UK registrars by the way.
