I was trying to register few dot jobs domains yesterday through domain.com, it was showing most of the names available (charging $155). But I tried the same through Godaddy.com(charging less than $120), it was showing all domains are reserved.

You guys have registered any dot jobs domains or still registration not open to public?

Thanks
BS

I remember when .jobs first came out (I was with GoDaddy) the problem was, not only are they very expensive, but they basically prohibit speculation/squatting. If you register it, it must be done for your business only, and used solely as information for recruitment or application.

This TLD is so limited (which is good, it serves its purpose). But no mere Domainer can just register .jobs at will - make sure you check all guidelines because once you pay that application fee and get rejected, you are not entitled to a complete refund.

That's so stupid, anyone i agree with you ... .jobs may apply only to big companies/jobs related business, in 99% of cases

Total Nightmare..

I even run a business in that space and have done for 4 years. Gave up trying to reg in the end .. too many hoops to jump through, paid money lost money, got denied etc despite having a legitimate and vested interest in the sector.

Yet you whois some names and some very iffy reg's indeed.

Nuff said .. keep away ...

Another doomed TLD.

Unless they changed, you can't even get a truly generic .jobs domain. The original rules required you could only register your legal company name as the name. It also had to be proven in the review process. There are several domains you might as well not consider as open:

.jobs - Highly restricted to companies with websites not for speculation.
.coop - I think you have to be in some sort of coop oganization to register.
.museum - so long an extension not even many museums who qualify want them.
.aero - You have to be in the aviation industry or a pilot to get them. I have a few as a licensed private pilot, but they are non-transferable so can't be sold openly like other domains and can only be developed.

Anyways, I hypocrisy find any sense behind this restriction, and then they can put same restrictions on all other domains like org, biz, edu etc?

The restrictions are because that's what the registry proposed when they applied to start the TLD. They are contractually obligated to maintan the restrictions unless they get a change approved by ICANN or their contract is renegotiated. .name renegotiated their contract a few years ago to allow second level domains, so there is some precedence that changes can be made if the registry justifies it with their users and ICANN, and if a sponsored domain also the sponsorin organization.
