I have a few domains I no longer care about and want to drop, but I don't want to bother with the expiration process and all the annoying reminders to pay I'm getting. Is there a way to voluntarily drop them?

Yes, most registrars have a delete button.

Mobile, so can only add GD for now. Click on the name to manage like normal and you'll see the delete button.

I can't find anything like that at NameCheap.

After doing research and finding old discussions, I'm only able to find that you must contact support to do so.

You need to explicitly ask for an immediate delete. Most of the time, the registrar will send the domain to redemption because it can still be recovered in case of error, misunderstanding...

I deleted a name on GD one month ago and it still shows as registered, but not by anyone. I suspect GD may hold onto it, and sell at tdnam auction in 9 months.

If there is some time to expiry, we would suggest trying to monetize these names by parking and selling them instead. It will give you an opportunity of knowing their worth before dropping them.

Create a new account and push it away.

Better to delete or give away here on NP.

Yes, the fastest way to get rid of it is to contact your registrar's tech support. They can delete the domain from your account and put you out of your misery within minutes.

Unless your domains are with Moniker, or 1&1, or other deity-forsaken registrar from hell....
