Hey fellas hows it going I was woundering about expired domains, theres a couple domains that I would like to have both expired a couple months ago and now they're up for auction no one is bidding on them and the close date is in a couple days what happens then if no one bids on them do you just register them normaly or how does that work.

Thanks

Not really a "simple" answer; it kind of depends on where the names are at auction. My guess is, since you say they are at auction now, that they are at TDNam (which means they are "pre-drop", and they will still need to be "dropped"), eNom Club Drop (again, in pre-drop phase) or Snapnames (which means they are most likely being kited by Snapnames in their public auction).

I'd say this; if you can get the names for $20 or less now and you want 'em.. get 'em now. If you think they have any sort of backlinks and you really want 'em.. get 'em now.

Assuming they make it to a "real drop", they will likely get picked up several times before the "tasters" leave them alone. Anything with any real value will likely get resold at Snapnames Public Auction at this time (as they will pick up almost anything to try and resell) or kept by another "taster" if its determined they can make more money parking it than it will cost.

OK so if I bid on them now and nobody else does then they're mine right

Pretty much so.

If they are at TDNam, you have to wait 2 weeks for the names to clear. There is a CHANCE the old owner could reclaim them, though he'd have to fork over $80/name. Its not super likely (as they renewal would have been a lot cheaper), but it has happened to me before.

If they are at Snapnames or eNom (though I'm less sure about eNom), I'd say you could be almost assured of getting the names.

Actually its at club drop I dont know if your firmiliar with them if I'm reading things right theres a min bid of $60 and if you get it you register it with them and they charge $30 so your looking at a minimum of $90 thats a bit much.

..oh, ok. Club Drop = eNom.

I haven't used them in a while, but I remember them having reverse auctions and public auctions. The reverse auctions continue to "drop" in price until they hit a minimum. You can put in a proxy bid or BIN as well. The public auctions start out with a minimum price. Do you know if its a reverse or public auction?

If I'm reading everything right over at club drop its niether a reverse or public auction yet its still in club drop pre bidding phase and if you place a bid in this phase which min bid is $60 then it goes into a private auction.

I guess thats right if so I'll wait and see if it makes it out of that club drop phase then it goes to the reverse or public auction I'll try and snag it.

Also thanks man for taking the time to explain this to me I appricate it

..it may actually be in "Pending Delete" phase then. Do this :

* Go to any registrar that you can do a WhoIs (Godaddy works).
* Check the status. It should say something like "Redemption Period" or "Pending Delete"

Let me know what the status is, and I'll see what else I can tell you.

OK when I look at the whois info at godaddy it says

Domain not found.

Registry Status: pendingDelete

Try this :

Go to Snapnames.com and Pool.com and search for the name. Can you tell me if its there? If so, does it have the same expiry date?

Ok its at both but and the dates are the same but

Snap name says Auction Start and the date

Pool says Deletion Date and the date

Club drop says close Date and the date

All the dates are the same but one says Auction start one says Deletion date and one says close date

Sounds like the domain is actually ABOUT to drop.

If that is true, NONE of these services can guarantee getting it. Your best bet is to use all of them if you really want the name. Pool and Snapnames are $60 (registration included). eNom looks to have raised their fee since I last used them to $90 overall.

If the name is worth that to you, use them all. If you are the only using Pool.com or Snapnames to try for the name and they acquire it, you will get the name. That used to be the case for eNom as well, but I can't guarantee that to be the case anymore.

If its NOT worth that to you, wait until after it drops and check out Snapnames. A lot of times they will pick up domains during the drop and resell them in a public auction. The starting price can range anywhere from $9-$99. There is, however, no guarantee they will get it. But that's probably going to be your best chance at a cheaper price.

There is also a chance that, if Snapnames DOESN'T get it after it is dropped and auction it, that whoever get it will redrop it. You'll just need to check it every day for a while. If the same owner has it for more than a week or so, then they decided to keep it.

My suggestion again : if you really want it, use Snapnames, Pool, and eNom Club Drop to try getting it this time. Sometimes domains can make it all the way back to open registration, but good ones rarely do.

Its a nice name that I would like to have but I think I'll try and wait to see if it goes up for auction and see if I cant get it then which I starting to have doubts about but hey maybe no one will notice it lol.

No problem. Glad I could help. :)

It's really not a bad name at all if it makes you feel any better.

Good luck with it!
