What happens to expiring domains on SnapNames that go on auction and close with 0 bids?

These domains whois says "Status: EXPIRED - PENDING DELETE" with Moniker, but the expiration date has been updated with 1 more year.

???

Thanks

I'm talking of expiring domains they sell on auction... What happens when the auction closes without bids?

Well, the names will then be sent to redemption and drop.

But they have updated the expiration date with 1 more year, even if the Registrant is "Moniker - Pending Delete"...

Registrars usually renew the expired domains with the registry, so they can offer a grace period to their customers. Technically those names are not expired, they would enter redemption from day one otherwise.
But the registrar can still cancel the renewal within 45 days and get a refund. In the meantime they put them up on sale.
If you post the full whois I could confirm that.

I guess those domains get dropped and available for public registration.
A perfect example for this would be the LLLL.com domains.
I have been continously monitoring these names for the past 1 week. Every domain gets renewed on the actual drop date and shows expiry as the next year (renewed for 1 year).

But after a 3 day period some of them get deleted and are available for public registration (I guess these are the ones which get no biddings).
