Can .science be saved ??

Part of my newish philosophy is try to use keyword dot ngTLD and no/few subdomains.

e.g. keyword dot web and keyword dot audio and keyword dot chat etc. for various functions of a site that needs more than one server. I think that scheme will start to catch on.

I think .science would be great for things like R&D department website, when Example Company wants to show off their research - example dot science.

The biggest problem with .science currently is that science sounds authoritative and it is cheap, and being cheap, it will be used by spammers and is being used by spammers.

But if they raise the price, say double it, then spammers won't be as attracted to it and the existing .science domains spammers are using they will let expire as they are added to blacklists.

If we encourage the registry to raise the price, do you think it can be saved?

Personally, I wonder of any institution or research center will even touch this extension now?!

I actually doubt it, but I might be wrong.

Their free campaign was great for the statistics but (maybe) horrible for the credibility.

Attracting spammers is a problem but lack of end users and development is a problem too.
By raising the price you mitigate problem #1 but compound problem #2.

I have a science background and checked out a few ideas that seemed to go with dot science. "earth.science" for example, and all were taken.

I have been collecting ecology related domains such as EcologyStudyGuides, but see no strong reason to add any .science.

I think it is easy to forget how slowly developments like this difuse into the general public.

I built InvestInDebt.com to announce meetings for an investment group I attend. It never amounted to anything in part because less than 10% of the members knew how to leave a comment on a WordPress blog!

I rely on orgainc search for my traffic and doubt many of my visitors have any idea of what the url is.
