what are the legal issue surrounding purchasing a name such as "GeorgeBush.info" what are your rights to it?

Can george just sue you?

Only reason I am asking is because recently I have acquired around 10 popular peoples names and these are already bringin in decent traffic and I am worring that I could get sued?

I'm not a lawyer, but there's always a possibility of getting sued for variety of reasons including slander and defame of character.

No what if you create it into a "fan" style site?

George Bush is a political figure, so that domain should be fair game... When you get into celebrities though, it gets a bit iffy.

I say it's in the gray area.
You'll still risk a lawsuit on your hand.
Remember to purchase the celebrity pics from a reputable source instead of stealing it from different website. If you don't, you will increase your chance of having a law suit on your hand.

Here is teh best advise you will get....

USe the search box and type in "trademark" and read for a week. Then type in "TM" and read teh threads you may have missed the first time. This will save you time, money and headaches, not to mention you will learn something worthwhile. Just about everything has been covered to the Nth degree.

I'm not a bot, but it seems like it. And I only post it when the question can be answered with very simple research. You have been seeing it alot lately because people are asking the same question "I have a TM, can I get in trouble?" or some form of that. There have been a rash of newbies who have not bothered to do an ounce of research, then they expect to get fast answers to the most remedial questions. If you enable them, they will keep asking questions that simple research would answer. And anyone who has been around for any length of time knows I give unbiased assistance based on facts. I tend to be blunt because many times, that is what's needed for someone to see past their onwn opinions and maybe look at something objectively.

Yes, it is the best piece of advice and all they need to do is a little leg work.
