Names of famous people

Hi

What are the rules concerning the registration of a NameSurname.com domain?

I think I read sometime ago that famous people had the rights to their own name, but how famous should they be?

Is that right? and what if thousands of other people have that exact name (a common name)?

I would like to invest some in common names, but am afraid of being sued by right fully owners.

Can any body help me on that one?

From how I understand it it says that you cannot register other people's names at all..? not even if there are thousands of people (non-famous) with that exact name.

If its a common name, or it is your name, sometimes you can. But trademarked names like Cher... don't even bother unless you like lawsuits.

Any famous person's name is best left alone.

I agree, the water guy's name is Michael Jackson, but he doesnt dance :p so yeah he has the right to register Mjackson.com or whatever :p
