Breaking news from BuyDomains!! Amazing

Now I have read it all, the August newsletter from BuyDomains starts with the following sentence:

"Did you know there are 21 different domain extensions, ranging from the well-known .com to the more obscure (and restricted) .aero?"

WOW!!

Thank you BuyDomains, here was I under the impression that there were more than 200 domain extensions, and BuyDomains announces that there are more than 21! I mean who chose the number '21'? why not 14, or 50, or 100, or come to think of it 200?

I guess some bright spark at BuyDomains may have just woken up to the fact that the internet covers the whole world, not just the den they have decided to live in. Why, or rather 'How', was this newsletter passed for publication by those in charge at BuyDomains? Surely this must be one of the weirdest statements ever to come from one of the leaders in the domaining aftermarket.

Hells bells, this is just plain dumb stupid.

Guess they mean gTLDs + sTLDs

ccTLDs aren't 'global' extensions in that sense.

I receive the newsletters but mostly to track upcoming industry events, nothing else.

Samit, same here, but to head the newsletter as they did with such is ridiculous. It gives a totally misleading statement all the more prominance, either they mean what they say (and lets hope they don't because that shows total ignorance) or they say things they don't mean (perhaps this is worse because it means everything else they say has to be questioned).

I guess I just expected 'more' from a company like BuyDomains. I would like to here them say which of the above is correct though. Egg on their face either way. :p

So what are the extensions that they have decided exist?

I am betting that they have forgotten other countries exist outside of America.

My impression is that BuyDomains has long focused on gTLD domains, such as .com, .net, .org, etc - in that context, their statement of "21 different domain extensions" makes sense; 21 is correct.

With that said, it's poor wording, especially since much of BuyDomain's target audience is familiar with / owns domains in ccTLDs too, and hence assume that BuyDomains would include them in the count.

I guess they are talking about these:

.com, .edu, .gov, .int, .mil, .net, .org, .biz, .info, .mobi, .tel, .jobs, .museum, .travel, .aero, .asia, .eu, .cat, .coop, .pro, .int
