Why calling a TLD promotion 'a scam'? If you run a registrar, wouldn't it be normal for you to advertise your products (domain names) in order to sell more of them? Since GoDaddy sells domain names, I find it pretty obvious.

Yes, you are quite right. Perhaps 'scam' was too harsh of a description.
Maybe I should have said something like your explanation. However, rightly or wrongly, it is designed to give the extension and Godaddy's profits a boost, with many gullible people being led to believe that the extension is more valuable than it actually is. :imho:

I guess my feelings are as a whole any airtime we get in the general public is a good thing honestly. I mean parsons has without fail pushed the envelope to help our industry get new buyers/sellers and an overall boost in activity. I don't really have an opinion about .co but like I have stated any publicity towards the domain industry as a whole is good. We need more of the spotlight to maintain growth in our sector and for our investments to pay dividends at the end of the day.

Parsons has indeed helped the domain industry. People tend to judge him on Godaddy's actions-which shouldn't be the case. Godaddy's main function is to turn a profit. They even give out coupons for domainers to purchase with a discount. The end-user usually does not have access to these coupons-Godaddy sends them out to aid domainers (and obviously turn a profit). Parsons on the other is a great business man and I think he deserves respect in the domain industry.

We can get a bit upset when we see GoDaddy shining the spotlight to a new extension and away from the extension they were pushing . But that is not Bob "trying to p*** those off" who invested in the previous extension. It's a business decision which aids in GoDaddy's growth. If Godaddy is not to grow, their actions wouldn't make an impact anyway and we wouldn't whine on about it. Then Godaddy will wither into nothingness. And we would have one less registrar on the map which would hurt the domain industry. We would also have less of a choice when buying domains online.

If anybody wants to be angry at someone about any decisions/changes made at GoDaddy, be angry at Godaddy (the business). Be vocal about your feelings. Call them up. I always do.
