The Godaddy.com Super Bowl commercial has been released and as promised for the first time features a dog, name buddy, with a VERY brief appearance by Danica Patrick
Although there are no sexy, barely clothed women, I would say this commercial is as risky a commercial as the company has ever run on the Super Bowl.
When I say risky I think there maybe a lot of push back on this commercial from the public. I also really don’t see how it will motivate people to use Godaddy to register domain names or use Godaddy to set up their business using their web builder tools.

We all seem heartless to continue using GoDaddy after this (and the elephant thing etc). But we still use it since it's cheap. I guess money > ethics

@Archangel , when you are referring to ethics, is that ethics in general or business ethics?

I see nothing wrong with puppy mills being unethical, as that's how some people make a living. In the case of money > ethics, you could go further to say making a living > money > ethics.

I also don't see any unethical advertising, as everything stated is in line.

Ethics could be translated a few different ways. It could be "moral compass" or the general right/wrong feeling. This is a harmless commercial--can''t say it's nugatory, but it's harmless enough. Still the backlash won't deter ppl from using GoDaddy. They're too cheap to not use

Ethics and intellectual banter aside... that's a pretty awful commercial.

When you think about it, a whole room full of people that make more money than most of us had to approve that.

What were they even thinking? This is par with CartoonNetwork adult swim humor.

I didn't get to watch it. Can someone summarize it for me?

That's what I'm thinking. GD is pretty smart with their PR... kinda.

I didn't get to watch it. Can someone summarize it for me?

Dog falls off back of truck

Dog braves the elements to find his owners/home

Dog makes it. ppl are happy

Then we find they're happy since they sold the dog online, thus the dog spent his time searching for home in vain

in context, that's pretty funny. :)

I especially liked the train horn (heard in the background) when the puppy was crossing the railroad tracks. nicely done.

I think ppl were just being too sensitive. The commercial doesn't advocate 'puppy mills' or in any way glorify them. I'm pretty sure ppl would call it a 'glorification of alcoholism' if one of the adults at the end were drunk. It's all arguing for the sake of arguing: trying to find anything to gripe about.

Hey let's go a step further:

There are no black ppl in the commercial, so GoDaddy must support 'white power'

It's a dog so obviously, GoDaddy thinks dogs are great & they hate cats

Seemingly, the family at the end is heterosexual--does GoDaddy hate gays? Why did we not see two men holding hands? Easy: GoDaddy spits at homosexuality

We could do this all day...
