I received an email this morning from the CEO of Brandpa, Jowita Emberton, and I want to make sure it's legitimate and not a scam. This is my first potential sale with BrandPa, so I'm not entirely sure about their process.

Here is the email:

Hello Mitchell,

Just to let you know, we have a person interested in purchasing your name ******.com. Their budget is $****** (their original budget was $******* :) )

They'd like to pay in a deposit of $******* to secure the name and finalise this purchase in 28 days. This is a part of their message:

"I don't need the time to make up my mind or anything, its a done deal. However, due to the holiday season, people are away and I just need the time to sort out the money!"

We don't usually do deposits but we could make an exception in this case - only if you're ok with this.

The plan would be that Brandpa holds 10% of the full payment to secure the name for the buyer Take it off Brandpa and ask you to keep the name until they're ready to purchase it). We will raise the invoice when the buyer is ready to complete the purchase. If they decide not to purchase the name, we will make a payment of $******* to you (the deposit they made).

Please let me know what you think.

Kind regards,

Jowita Emberton

Can anyone confirm the legitimacy of this email? I don't want to reply until I know for sure.

Thanks for your help!

Mitchell

Yes, that's also an option. Just wanted to reach out to all of you who have experience. I don't have any.

What is the email id from which you received email?

It appears to be Jowita's official BrandPa email address. I'm sure everything is in order and fine. I'm probably being a bit overcautious; read too many scam stories I suppose.

Why in the world would you post this private email regarding a potential sale? You should be on Slack talking to Jowita if you have any questions not in a public forum ๐Ÿ™„

I honestly didn't think it was wrong of me to do... just looking for helpful advice. The only advice I'm receiving is that I should not be on this site asking questions. I'll take the post off. Didn't mean to offend anyone.

I think you could have simply put a private message to Jowita's profile here on namepros. She can only confirm whether it was indeed her email.

This post wasn't necessary IMHO.

You didnโ€™t do anything wrong by wanting to ask a question of something you werenโ€™t sure of. Some here are just condescending know-it-alls (not!) who enjoy belittling newer domainers with their โ€˜one yearโ€™ of experience. Forums are for asking questions from those that may know the answers.

I had no idea that Jowita had a profile on here.... Again, I'm new.

Also, I've tried taking this post down, but for some reason I cannot edit or delete the post.... So again, I apologize for offending anyone. Not sure what else I can do at this point.

Donยดt worry you havenยดt offended anyone and itยดs ok to ask questions when you are in doubt :xf.smile:

@Jowita Emberton is great. She's really helpful and very very responsive. You should go ahead and e-mail her directly (or message on Slack if you're on there). Also, don't worry about it. Your question is definitely not offensive and you should not worry about it.

Wish you good luck and hope that the sale goes through!
