Hi,

Quick question here, I'm having a tricky time choosing a brand and I have two options - a .co and a .com.

Let say the site is about frogs. I want to make an official website/database about all the frogs out there, and I like the sound of calling it "The Internet Frog Database" ("IFDB")

So my current (best) options are:

ifdb.co
-or-
frogdb.com

I've added a poll - would love some feedback and what your personal choice would be if you wanted to create a strong brand and these are the only decent options (above)

Many thanks

Actually, this discussion between .COM versus .CO has been tackled here in Namepros countless of times already.

"Branding" always gravitates toward .COM.

Stay away from .co. Take the .com and build your brand.

If your building a brand then you have got to go for a .com

Just curious.
From your avatar, you seems to be a .pro lover.
But why there is no love for .pro in your own choices?

Even Overstock tried rebranding as O.CO, but are now back on the .COM. Expensive mistake for them.

FrogDB is meaningful and easier to remember... and to brand.

I have seen a lot more branded sites using .NET.

Why even think of using .CO ?! Because it's a typo ?!

Thanks again for the replies. I *used to be* a big .PRO fan years ago but I've stopped domaining since then and concentrating more on development of sites.

I was thinking the .co route because every other alternative in .net and .org was taken. With all your help I've decided to go .com all the way... feel much better about it too, as it didn't sit quite right with the .co

Many thanks again everyone - there really is no other option if you want a strong brand, than to get a decent .com

Guys - sorry to bring this up again, I was walkin the dog this morning and another name came to mind (also in .com) which is making this branding decision even more difficult now.

So say the site is now about bananas -- it's goal is to be the #1 resource and largest resource/database of ALL the different types of bananas out there, the "definitive guide" to bananas and every banana expert would refer to this site. Assume both these name would be available:

BananaDB.com
-- or --
BananaBase.com

Which would be the strong/better/more memorable of the two in your mind? Curious to hear your opinion on this... many thanks again.

*DB.com as in jobsdb.com, my .02 cents.

LOL .Com all the way. I constantly see .CO business advertising their sites the following way:

123domain.co (.co not .com!)

Both are good, but I think 'keyword+Base' has clearer meaning than 'keyword+DB'. :imho:

Some samples of 'keyword+Base':
- Google Base
- OpenOffice Base
- etc...

Some samples of 'keyword+DB':
- IMDB
- JobsDB
- etc...

LOL .Com all the way. I constantly see .CO business advertising their sites the following way:

123domain.co (.co not .com!)
wishful thinking is wishful lol

it's akin to register reditcards.com and then advertise the core subdomain as " hey go to c.reditcards.com (not creditcards.com)"
