Could it be that he is upgrading to $200 logos

Maybe? But this was the response I got last October when asking about the different tiers of Logo Awards...
jj.png

All the $200 logo domains in this email came out really nice. Unfortunately, none have sold yet. I stopped submitting at the $200 level because this wasn't the case for all going forward.
I wonder if after @Domainzy became an ambassador, BrandBucket created a time machine and went back in time to give him better logos?

We don't have a time machine. We only have the WayBack machine.

According to the WayBack machine:

10/21/2014 (Domains Published) 6,553
Date of Message about Logo Awards: 10/19/2015 (Domains Published - 20,751)
Today's Date: 3/24/2016 (Domains Published - 26,986)

Let's recap - 10/2014 they had 6,553 domains published. In the past 5 months alone, they have published nearly this same amount. (6,235 +/- what has been sold / remove)

Why does this matter?

Growth is great. I support their growth 100%. It's the quality of the product that can inadvertently slip when they start focusing on quantity over quality. We're simply letting them know there is a problem in the process. I would rather fix the hole and remain on board. But if they refuse to fix the hole, and/or refuse to allow us to fix said hole, what other choice do we have?

Let's braninstorming about qaffo.com

1) Main idea: what is your first association? Qaffo... qaffo... For me is coffee, cafe, caffeine etc... If you have no association, you always can read description: "...name that plays on the word 'cafe'". So, we can assume, the basic idea is the cafe, coffee, caffeine...

2) Main figure: designer sees something like a square or rectangular star. This is exaclty like... like... coffee cup! No... coffee cup must be round... So, this like... coffee bean... No, coffee bean is not square also... This is like... like... Yes! This is like window in coffee shop! Everything looks perfect...

3) Main colors: designer sees some red, green-blue and violet. This like... This like... I have no idea...

@michaeljkrell, do you continue to believe that it is "very nice logo"? Do you see there is no problem?

For the record, I don't think BrandBucket has a ton of bad designers. There are designs, such as Q/o/f/f/y.com, that I absolutely love! I'd up this design to a $200 logo award fee if I could.

My problem is with the consistency and lack of recourse to fix poor logo's. Surely, you can notice the difference in quality and uniqueness between the two logo's?

Q*ffo logo is simply awful. From color choice, to messiness, to no relevance to neither word, nor initial letter, nor to anything. Are those 4 pants lying on the ground? Something else?

Hello everyone!

Thanks for your feedback! Brand Bucket appreciates your ideas and suggestions. Please keep in mind that BB has always been willing to take a second look at a logo for any sellers who is really unsatisfied with the logo.

I have had to ask for one logo review once and my request was approved and BB had the logo designer remake the logo and it was as simple as that. There is no special treatment, the logo designers take the logo next in line in the queue.

Brand Bucket encourages its sellers who are capable, to make a portfolio of your personal logo designs and submit the portfolio to Brand Bucket and if your designs are suitable for BB then you will be accepted as a logo designer! Which means you can make you own future logos!

On a side note, if you look at the logos of the 10 top companies, you might notice many similarities, and the most common similarity is that the logos are basic. Furthermore most of them use only use one color! Besides Google and Microsoft trying to compete, none of them use more than two colors!

These brand have the largest budgets in the world and can afford any logo they want. Its not an accident that 6 out of 10 choose blue in their logo. Its not an accident you don't see much shading or 3D effects or any intricate designs or mascots involved in the logos. The majority choose to use a basic font besides Coca-Cola (who prides themselves on their script font that was chosen by their original accountant). And the other brands who don't use a common font stand on their icon alone.

When I first started to learn about branding and logo design, I always assumed that more shading, more 3D, super intricate designs and of course a clever mascot or something extra was the best!... but the truth is, when it comes to branding, less is more. And what may seem like a 'simple' or 'basic' design, is actually branding at it finest! The proof is in the pudding as they say, and the more complex, the more colors, the more shading, the more designs..... the less appealing it is to the masses.

Thanks!

I would hate to be your guys' waiter.

I'd hate to have you as a waiter...

the logo designers take the logo next in line in the queue.

Isn't this incentivizing your designers to concentrate on quantity over quality?

Can you confirm if your designers are given the option to be paid $5 per logo or the award fee?

Brand Bucket encourages its sellers who are capable, to make a portfolio of your personal logo designs and submit the portfolio to Brand Bucket and if your designs are suitable for BB then you will be accepted as a logo designer! Which means you can make you own logos!

Are the listing fee's subsidized for the designers? What if we don't want to be a BrandBucket logo designer... Say we have our own designer(s) for specific domains, will BrandBucket consider allowing us to upload our own designs for our own domains?

@Domainzy Do you not see the difference between the logo's in question and the logo's you provided in response? Maybe these companies have a different definition of "Less is more"

I can say without a doubt, every logo @Domainzy provided is memorable.

Can anybody truthfully remember the BrandBucket logo's in question? Is there anything that set's them apart. Based off memory, I can only say I vaguely remember the F in F/e/n/a/m/a. Every other logo detail is lost in the similarities.

There are designs, such as Q/o/f/f/y.com, that I absolutely love!
@Grilled Jesus, thank you for a good example. I absolutely agree that Q/o/f/f/y have a good design. The same can be said about Q/a/f/f/y and K/a/v/v/o.

I would hate to be your guys' waiter.
@Nat Hunt, just business, nothing personal. I think $100 is too much for six violet symbols.

When I first started to learn about branding and logo design, I always assumed that more shading, more 3D, super intricate designs and of course a clever mascot or something extra was the best!
@Domainzy, we're not talking about the number of colors, not about 3D and other sophisticated techniques. We talk about the basic rules of graphic design.

And what may seem like a 'simple' or 'basic' design, is actually branding at it finest!
Simple doesn't mean easy. Simple doesn't mean cheap. Simple doesn't mean sloppy...

Following a lull that came after 5 nice sales at open of year I've notched another sale in last few days:

* S * T * A * C * K * G * R * I * D * . * C * O * M *

Name. Not surprised the name sold. Would buy it myself. Congrats

@Simdes it's not $100 though, it's more like $5, but that's probably too much for you too, I'm guessing ;)

With all due respect, I don't think BB needs defenders. Sellers are BB's partners, only those companies that are willing to listen to their partners/clients/suppliers will succeed in the long run. BB has shown willingness to discuss/listen, although quite slow in adjusting. Trying to shut other people's concern is not helpful.
And no, it is not about $5. I don't want a logo that can hurt a sale even if I am paid to get it.
As Domainzy pointet out, it is not about abundance of colors etc. for successful brands, it is about simplicity, memorability, character.

Nat, I understand that you don't have problem with logos. I understand that you believe they are not important.

But why do you think it is appropriate to shut the concern of other people, especially if you see that at least 3-4 people did express this as considerable concern for them. Do you feel the necessity to protect BB in this instance or is it some kind of irritation that the thread is taking a direction in which you have no interest?

Does it mean that if you get your concern that you want to discuss publicly, it is ok for other to shut you because they don't share your concern?

I think BrandBucket Seller's Newsletter maybe released in one or two days, last month we received on 25th.

@Recons.Com I've been listening to this conspiracy theory BS for months and months. One week it's one thing. The next week is another thing. Then another, etc. You are just coming in for this part. You can complain about whatever you want. I don't have the power to stop any of it. I will counter if I want. My guess is much of tonight's conversation will be deleted. Anyway, wail away and I will too. But I do think people who ignore issues like you're talking about and just put 100 good names up will be happy with their sell-through rate. The logo just doesn't matter that much.

I'm not talking about you!

I have heard some of your names. I know they are good and think you have a good eye.

Thank you ) I misread ) The point is not if the conspiracy is there or not. The point is that all conflicts of interest should be excluded/mitigated. BB has done good job on addressing some of the previous concerns, like giving the same exposure on featured etc. They turned around and made sure with the new design everything is square and fair.

Logo issues are not big deal, but leave unpleasant feel. There are names that I like and have some vision, but when I see a lazy logo, especially if the next domain has exactly the same font and lines showing the same guy did both in two minutes, it leaves me unhappy and it is not even about the sales. Again, it can be easily addressed with proper incentives for better quality.

But hey, look at the bright side: if we are discussing just logos, it means many other issues have been resolved :)

They send Newsletters every week. Interesting enough, the first domain on last weeks NewsLetter sold within one week of the newsletter being published.

I've always supported their NewsLetter, and I'm happy to report no NewsLetters have been flagged for Malware and sent to spam since the flagged NewsLetter I reported.

Logos and their importance to sales on BB is subjective, BB see it as showing the buyer an 'example' of how the name looks next to/as a logo, nothing more. Sellers are attached to names and want them to look as attractive as possible in the 'shop window', we crave great logos to inspire a purchase, but we see similarity, at times low quality mass produced logo's and we're not inspired.

At the end of the day we are not running BB, its a business that makes decisions to increase profits. Their increased profits should mean better results for sellers so we have to accept and trust what they do. Its just the way it is.

And yes particularly bad logos (which will happen from time to time) which might be viewed to have a negative impact on a name can be challenged and changed. Neutral logos that do not necessarily inspire but also do not damage the name do not fall in to this category.
