I know that Alexa is worthless most of the time, but it was the only available metrics here. Recons gets 700-1000 unique visitors a day on a placeholder with no content so far.

That's something usual for domains that once were active websites. Recons has been a sort of Doctor Who related site for many years...question is how many of those Doctor Who fans are interested in domains?

IMO when it comes to traffic it's not about the quantity but quality... I'd gladly swap those 1000 Doctor Who uv/day for 100 domaining uv/day anytime.

I'd try to park this domain for a while just to test the quality of the traffic.

No, that is not true. "Doctor Who" traffic was more like 3-5 people a day.
The rest is from redirects from about 3000 domains I own.

Sorry, my bad. I had no idea you redirected so many names to your placeholder ... just thought it's all natural traffic from the old website.

In this case perhaps you should setup your own marketplace and proper redirect each domain to its own page rather than redirecting them all to the homepage , sort of BB style.

Its an interesting topic own site versus BB, currently I am happy to pay BB their commission in return for their market reach. It doesn't have to stay like this forever but its the solution that works best for me now.

I think BB should consider reviewing domain owners benefit if we bring a lead to their site that results in a sale, by making it more appealing they will increase their sales team. Currently I think its 6% discount on commission but the sale must be over $5k. Scope for more of a 'partnership' approach I feel.

I will always believe its a maths game. Yes BB has slowed down on sales when it comes to % of the entire portfolio being sold annually. Previously it was 5-8% for each seller, then slowed down to 3-5% earlier this year. I think by the end of this year we will be approaching a 1.5-2% mark!

At this rate, one should think if he's a bulk buyer with thousands of domains or strictly a quality investor?

For Bulk Buyers : $10 additional listing fees should be a 50-50 call. you will almost double your annual costs and in return have a chance to double your sales! If your domains will average anything above $1,830 each, then all whats on top is a pure profit. Maths behind it (2% sales, annual cost for each domain $18.3;listing + renewal). Bear in mind that starting the second year and moving forward, your ROI would be better coz you only pay the renewal fees then. However still not the very choice to be honest!

For Quality Buyers : Its a no brainer. Renewals are a fraction of your acquisition costs and $10 listing should be marginal as well! For a double rate of selling (I give BB the credit that their landers sell twice others')

Before wrapping up, I want however to raise a red flag here : The trend is generally going down. BB are looking for Quantity more than quality now. They have a daily target of newly published domains and their associated listing fees. However, the tempted buyers are the quality owners (as they get a better ROI).

To sum up : Bulk buyers are the victims here. Their listing fees are one of the cash cows for BB. They sell a lot, but pay almost the same amounts in listing and renewals! BB must have a strategy, quality or quantity! You cant open your doors to both, while in effect one is (inherently) abusing the other!

BB (hypothetically) has a mission statement of providing quality brandables to startups and established business looking to rebrand/upgrade their business names.

By the way : I consider myself a quality names owner, I shouldnt be writing this, as I benefit from others in this game! however, my presence on the platform all depends on numbers. I will survive there for a while, but i dont think it will be past May-July 2016! Not to mention that a lot of bulk buyers will have dried up before then!

@michaeljkrell please dont take anything I said in a negative way. I am a BB fan (still) and will always like to continue using the platform. This is a feedback for everyone (including you), that I think will only help the platform get better!(from my own humble opinion) :)

Good Luck to everyone!
This is an excellent post you wrote and Mr Krell should pay attention to it. I recently sent them a note asking why some of my submissions -that were VERY similar to some listed by "ambassadors" or "equity partners" were turned down-NO REPLY. Also has anyone here sold a name and had any issues getting paid?

How would anyone/seller possibly know if they sold another name off your type in?

If you do some outbound sales and introduce a buyer to BB for one of your names you get 6% discount from their commission but the name must be over $5k value. I think they shouldn't have a value limit and offer 25% commission if you introduce the sale. Would cover your logo fee on a $2k name.

Why would anyone bring them a buyer for their own name and pay a 25% or 30% commission?

What, so if you have names on there you are not interested in helping them sell??

Actually no. That's what they get 30% for and by the way-ask here the total of names listed vs how many actually sold. There is NO WAY anyone other than a BB partner can be profitable in a consistent manner listing names on BrandBucket with over 22,000 names on their site UNLESS you own 10% of all listed names or are an "Ambassador" etc. IT CAN NOT BE DONE. A few years back -yes it could be done but that ship has sailed. WAKE UP.

If I got a buyer myself, why wouldn't I wait for a month and get it delisted and the retail value myself?
I won't give my traffic, the logo fees and 30% commission and on top of all this give them a buyer?
I'm glad they don't take my kids as well :))))

Watch your tone. All I see is you on here moaning about BB, why can I ask do you use them?

Watch my tone? Im going to be polite so they dont throw me off NP-you know my response. Come back in a year after you've given BB $1000 in listing fees and name rejections tell us how you did.

I see traffic to your website is extremely limited. It has alexa 1.5M . do you actually sell with such traffic?
Can you please give us some stats/comparisons?

Of course he doesn't. Five times zero is still zero.

I know you're peeping.

In all seriousness I would just like to understand the negativity. If you have history or no longer have names at BB and want to give people a different viewpoint then I get it. If however you have names listed at BB I don't understand why this is the case reading your comments on this thread.

I accept its high commission and they have increased names at an alarming rate but its an option to sell a non-liquid asset which may only be a percentage of someones portfolio.

In my experience, it is easier to sell brandable domain names on BB than on your own separate site. Previously, I had most of my names listed solely on my personal site and the sales rate was about half of what it is on BrandBucket.

I've been mostly buying hand reg'ed names for BB. I think it's a smart investment, but as many experts will tell you, domain age matters. I'll say it again, domain age matters. That means if you are hand reg'ing names, you may have to wait a while before the names become profitable.

I know that Estibot info should be taken through a filter, but I believe that Estibot is a useful tool if the info is taken through a filter. I've watched many of my hand reg'ed names go up in value over time. Many of us who have BB portfolio's full of new domains should be patient and let our names age out a little like a fine wine. The names should be valuable down road. I am not 100% sure each name will be worth more as time goes on, but I do have plenty of money riding this theory and I know that my older names sell better.
