Mine was claya(.)com. But it recently sold, so I can't link to the logo. Maybe it sold because of the new logo

One possible explanation: a client got in touch with BB and asked for a redesign as a condition for purchase and gave them hints what they expect from it.

I don't think that is what happened in my case. Because the logo was changed long before the domain sold.

Still, it begs the question, as to why the logo was changed.

It doesn't appear (to me) that somebody would have complained about it violating there logo. Not sure how often this happens, given even if a logo were to violate another's, how likely is it that "another" will even find the similar logo, and subsequently report it?

It would be interesting to see exactly how long it took to sell after the new logo.

4 years? with the old logo = didn't sell.
Less than 6 months with the new logo = sold.

This would imply logo designers have the ability to re-design published logo's they created.

I'm not sure when the logo was changed, but the domain sold at BB in late December last year.

That could be the explanation, but as @Grilled mentioned, not sure if designers have the right to do that.

From what I have observed from my own sales, it is not a lot. I still don't know how big a difference the logos make...

I think the majority of buyers don't even care about the logo. It feels like logos are more filler than anything, to beef up the content of these sites, otherwise it would just be long list after long list. Having the logos provides a more satisfying browsing experience to the consumers and potential end user buyers. How much does having a logo affect the choice to buy a domain name?

The only ones winning in this agreement are the logo designers. The seller and the sites lose money having to pay out to the designers.

I tend to agree, but it is interesting that @Undeveloped now makes it possible for sellers to upload logos. I think they even encourage it and stress that buyers are purchasing a brand more than just a domain.

Noticed the same unsolicited change on a domain that used to be in my portfolio.

Maybe it had to do with the logo format and how it is displayed on the new landing pages, ie: transparent background.

I'll hazard a guess that they changed their style guidelines for logos, and that one of the new rules was that you cannot have multiple colours in any letter. They may have decided that older logos not meeting some new guidelines got updated.

Their logos follow a fairly standard approach, and nearly always include an icon. Words or letters often have alternate colours within logo, but letters themselves not. Plain white backgrounds so that they can overlaid on the office stationary promo pictures also a prominent feature of the logos.

Logos definitely help with the cognitive function of selecting a name, and I think we're going to see a lot more marketplaces looking at adding some sort of logos. In this respect, you could say that adding logos to domains names for sale was something that BrandBucket pioneered, or at least brought to mass market.

[Edit] Just saw the Moblius logo above, and this again supports my theory on multiple colours used within letters or words. I wonder what other types of logo were updated - anyone have a logo on a non-white background updated?

The new logo looks more visually appealing though. The redesign happened less than 3 months ago.

To me, it looks like BB is trying to add standalone icons to logos without one, as seen in the Moblios and Claya logo redesign too. However, I still have names without icons in their logo.

All the redesigns seen so far support @Brandworthy theory that "you cannot have multiple colours in any letter (or word)." However, I still have names with two colours in their words.

Seems only BB can explain what happened.
