I want to setup a site similar to Blogger.com, where users can create their own blogs and customize and maintain them. I was just wondering if anyone has had experience with blogging software and could recommend the best one to install?
I'm basically looking for something that offers users a lot of features, but is also easy to setup and maintain, from the user side as well as the admin side.

I'd appreciate any recommendations for specific blogging software, and if you run a site, please link it so I can check it out and tell me how difficult it was to setup (I'm not the greatest at webdesign/programming).

Thanks alot for any help and I'll add rep.
Also, programs that are free would be better.

Check out Blogware.com where you would probably find what you're looking for or do a posting on scriptlance and other freelance sites to see if there are people that could create this for you.

You could also check out Hotscripts.com where i just noticed some free solutions, to customize it to your own specifications you would have to know how to code/program but if you don't a freelance coder/programmer could customize it for you.

The foundation is already there ;)

Thanks for the advice. I noticed another thread where someone mentioned that WordPress has a Multi-User version, so I think I am going to check that out and the one you suggested. I know WordPress has a ton of support and add-ons/themes, so it might be the best route for me since I'm not very knowledgable in programming. I'm not looking for advanced customization, just enough so it doesn't look cookie-cutter.

I'd still appreciate hearing of any other software if others have suggestions. Thanks.

Wordpress MU is a good option. You can use most standard Wordpress themes and add-ons and there is plenty of support available. Best of all it is free! :)

I would also go for Wordpress Multi User, I mean Wordpress is by far my favourate blogging software so definately what I would reccomend.

Hey guys, I appreciate the feedback. I installed it this morning and from a quick run through of it, it looks pretty decent. I haven't had much time to add templates or customize anything, but I'll try working on it a bit later tonight. There are a few features I'm going to have to add, but hopefully I can find scripts for most of those. I mainly just want something that will allow me to insert rotating banner ads site-wide, sort of like Myspace has on each profile.

I also discovered I'm going to have to upgrade my hosting so I can have unlimited subdomains, which isn't a big deal, but definitely something I have to do before I launch the site.

Thanks again for the advice and help!

You might want to search the MU Wordpress forums for ad-banner and other plug-ins. The people over there are usuallly pretty helpful, but as usual make sure you search before asking common questions. ;)
