I'm interested in opinions about the different blogging software available to developers. Is there a clear cut version to use?

wordpress because you can add pinging services to it and won't need an external one like pingoat.com and has some cool mod/skins

Depends on the type of blog/site you want.

If you want clean standards-compliant and code conscious software, Wordpress wins hands down.

If you have many blogs (especially if from different domains) and want the ease of controlling them all from one place, MovableType would be your best bet.

B2Evolution is good for multiple blogs, and like Wordpress, early on had its code based on an earlier popular blogging engine called b2 (hence the name), though Wordpress had undergone massive and great changes since.

I use Wordpress and love it. Bryan's Rants in my sig is a site that uses it if you want a preview of what it can do. It is also very easy to customize and upgrade...and it's FREE!

WordPress is great... I like CuteNews better, as it's easier for me to make something "unique".

I agree with CuteNews, though I'm hesitant to call it a blogging program.

Try this out. Make a few databases and a few folders and try all the suggestions on for fit. Most of the time it is preference. In reality they all work pretty much the same but are like forums in the sense that the controls and layout are a bit different.

Well I'll jump on the wordpress bandwagon. I haven't used any other software out there besides one that I've written myself, but wordpress is easy to install easy to customize and easy to use, so it's got my vote.
