Former EMI Records director is launching a new UK Tv channel called Vintage TV

Vintage.tv has a large staff, some hefty celeb backing, and will be running off both satellite and digital platforms

The progress of .TV seems unstoppable in the 'real' world.

Oh, and someone here made quite a few dollars supplying them with the name (not me). But, of course, we never really hear of these things do we.

Hardly, rewind 10 years a tv channels were doing the same thing, that is the niche where .tv does have decent usage, sites directly related to television.

For every pointless moan about TV from Snoop, there are ten .TV channels being started.

Are you saying they aren't launching a channel?

Are you saying Mercedes-Benz.tv is run by a television company? I thought they made cars.

You say 'rewind 10 years' - I say 'move on ten years' - We are no longer in 2000, however much you want that to be the case.

No, I'm saying this is nothing new, a lot of tv related sites use .tv, that has been the case for over a decade, it is what the niche is all about. It does not mean anything much for domain speculators.

One minute you are saying there is no progress - now you are saying a launch of a heavily funded .tv channel is nothing new.

Then you suggest that "a lot of tv related sites use .tv". WTF!

Can you EVER be positive?

I have observed that Snoop(of whom I once used the affectionate term of Don Quixote) has never left the twentieth century as far as his views of extensions goes.

I would liken him to the die hard makers of silent movies at the advent of "talkies", or those who felt that radio, with its vast array of drama, comedy and soaps, would never be replaced by the new kid in town.

He is where he is and he hasn't shifted his opinion in spite of the progress that has been and is being made in the extension and the outside technological advances that enhance its worth.

Therefore, I am content to read his oblique and ever-increasingly obsolete opinions that allow his feet to be firmly planted in the 20th century. Why anybody would choose to attempt to "prove" the extension's worth to him and his kind is of course of their own choosing. I choose not to. Snoop is where he is and is happy to be there, as I am equally happy to be where I am regarding the .tv extension.

I've been saying the same thing for many years about .tv, that the extension is quite well used within its niche, ie tv shows/networks + some far less common usage among general video sites.

What you have presented today is of little significance for the extension because tv networks have been using this extension quite commonly for 10 years+. So when you say this is progress that would be like a .com investor saying that Microsoft new site on a .com domain is a boon for that extension or that a non profit deciding to use a .org is a boon for that extension. In reality nothing has changed.

In reality nothing has changed.

Will it get some exposure to .TV ? Maybe, a little.
Will it affect the .TV you see here? Maybe, probably not.
Will it create a developed site that is not domainer built? Yes.

I say that it is a change. Don't expect you to be blown away but I thought "development" was the biggest think hindering adoption?

1,000,000 .TVs on the wall... Take one away, Developed Today.... 999,999 dot .TVs on the wall..

Personally I wouldn't have said there is a shortage of development with tv networks & tv shows, I see it used quite regularly for that usage. Same was true a decade ago. When it is claimed that usage like this is more "unstoppable progress" that is just wishful thinking, it isn't progress for a tv network to be using this extension.
