Best way to make offer on BIN domain?

Hi all,

While I have posted a few sales on here, I still consider myself a serious newbie.

I am interested in buying a name that is currently showing as “premium” and “verified” on GoDaddy. It has BIN and LTO options, no MO option.

The site redirects to an old developed Tripod site.

1. Can I assume that the owner actually listed this for sale via Afternic? It’s odd bc if I look at any other registrar, it just shows as “Taken”

2. I’m not comfortable with the BIN price, but I’d love to make a reasonable offer. What is the best way to go about doing this. Privacy is on, so I cant see the contact info of the owner.

Thanks in advance for help.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
You can contact the owner via email despite privacy, the email address is in the registration data. Your message will be forwarded to the registrant as per ICANN regulations. (I’ve sold a couple of BIN listed domains this way myself.)

Or call GoDaddy.

I get offers on domains that I have priced, with no make offer.

They are usually from an Afternic contact.

I assume potential buyers reach out to GoDaddy or Afternic and they relay the offers.

I would probably only expect them to relay an offer, if close. If the offer is like $250 on a $7,500 domain or something, it is not worth the effort.

Holy smokes, duh. This makes so much sense that it forwards, but I hadn’t considered this.

Thank you Brad. I’ll certainly be reasonable. Appreciate you.

Make offer is only for Premium domains like 1 word top keyword .com domains.

put BIN on landing page and tempt buyer to buy it.

If you are tempting about sales, enable make offer with BIN (with very high price). jmo.

don't just make an offer, explain what will happen if they accept and the timeline.

Hi

I am interested in buying abc - com for $12,345 USD. This is not a mass email. If you are a domainer, please know I am a domainer myself and understand that offers by email usually lead to nothing. I am looking for a name for a project and your name is one of the options I like. My plan is if you accept the offer, within 24 hours I will arrange payment. I can pay via Escrow.com or GoDaddy / Afternic.

Thank You

I really appreciate this! I sold my first domain where the buyer did exactly this. One of the reasons I accepted their offer was because they made it easy by handling the escrow.com process.

I’m confident I can figure out how to setup the escrow.com. How do I go about paying via godaddy if they accept an offer? Do they need to change their afternic settings for this domain?

they would adjust their price on afternic and you would click to buy it

What are we looking at in fees if I sell via Afternic vs going direct through Escrow.com?

I assume it would be beneficial to lay this out to the buyer in my offer email…e.g. if we go direct they can avoid the afternic fees…

I'm lost -- I thought you were the buyer???

Maybe send an email directly to the seller? They could provide a GoDaddy Chekout link that would cost them (the seller) 5% fees

You can contact via Whois but I would be careful what wording I used or you could see the price increase.

Domainers who accept offers generally let their listings reflect that.

The fact that it is BIN with no make offer means this person wants that exact amount and does not like negotiations.

Do not use the word reasonable in your offer. Most overused stupid phrase in this niche.

It’s not anyone’s business to dictate what is a “reasonable” price and what is not because it’s never going to match what a buyer WANTS to pay.

What the seller thinks is reasonable is their BIN price.

Stress what you can afford not what they should be thinking “reasonable” is.

My reasonable is not your reasonable. That’s the mindset to go in with.

There is low probability they are interested in less than the fixed bin price.

Tread with that in mind.

I list at Afternic with BIN for all my names. I consistently receive offers from the Afternic reps, from buyers who contact them one way or the other. I sell many names this way. As a rule, I'll almost always take 10% off if someone does this.

I ignore all emails that come to me via the whois email as they seem to always be spam.

I recommend @schatzee simply contact Afternic and make a serious offer.

You make great points. Thank you for taking the time to share in such a clear and well-written way.

Thank you for sharing. My hesitation is totally around whatever Afternic broker represents my offer. I’ve only dealt with Afternic brokers as a seller, within Lead Center, and “fine” is the best way to describe that experience.
