.net

There's some good .net names available and I have a lot of SEO success with .net domains, but I'm sure that's just a coincidence.

never tried another domain name except .com but have heard alot about .net and .org being second and third and .info being less as it was used for spammers alot.

.us - They are cheap now, and .us is the only TLD with an official US government legacy that is still recognized as such by the rest of the world. The official country-code domain of the United States.
The rest of the world counts on ccTLDs for their respective countries.

.tel - Eventually an online directory with contact info only will be an efficient way to procure names, phone numbers, addresses, etc., without having to navigate through a built website. Again, they are cheap now.

When the domain name system becomes part of the curriculum of public education, these two will see skyrocketing values.

For speculation, I wouldn't buy any other tld other than .com. For development, it depends on the domain name. I would always buy the ccTLD if I was targeting localized traffic (rather than globalized traffic).

:talk:

i think it would depend on the domain.

like if it's a geographical term, one may want to go after the cctld or either .info or .org

if it's social, medical or education related, then .org would be a good second choice.

there is no set order to follow, imo....

.org
.tv

Many of you may disagree but these are what I see in the real world. Dot org is clearly known to the public when it comes to raising money for causes. Dot tv reaches masses of people through shows like pets.tv, cars.tv. comedy.tv, and so on.

The one extension I never see advertised or marketed is .net. It's not on tv, billboards, company vehicles...nowhere!

Servicepro.net local company name here advertised on buildings and vehicles.

Its out there just not that often.

I'm in Canada and I only see .com or .ca websites being advertised.

So from a speculative standpoint, put yourself in the end-users shoes - would you launch your corporate identity on anything other than .com / your country's cctld?

.net
.info
.org

In that order...

1) .com
2) .de (only for german names)

5) .org

After .com and own country cctld, i would prefer .me since it seems more brandable and cool.

Based on typeins and having their own identities, plus traffic potentiasl, just 2: DOT-COM and DOT-ORG. They are the only ones which can be relied on to get valuable free typein traffic (with .org being particularly good in certain categories such as health/disease and a few other categories).

P.S. Surprised to see .net .info .tv .biz .me mentioned in thread. Do you really think the non-domainer public would typein those lower-tier or obscure extensions except on very rare occasions!

No Type-in.

But .net , .info can be developed and rank as good as com and org , with good development. Calling .net an "obscure" extension is an "obscure" claim on your part anyway. net is well known amoung anybody in the world. The fact that you don't like net (as you mentioned quite a few times already) doesn't change anything about this fact.
