What's the best blog software?

I'm a complete blogging rookie. I want to know what's a decent, easy to use blogging software? I prefer something that can be skinned easily also. It doesn't have to be free, but I prefer it, it does have to be cheap though (under $50).

Wordpress is the best in my opinion. You can also use Google Blogger.

Yeah Wordpress is a very good system. It also has lots and lots of plugins, so you can customize it quite much (you can also edit the skin ofcourse), and it gives you near unlimited possibilities as long as you have the right plug-in.

I third the Wordpress suggestion! :D It's powerful, it's free, and it has a very active community of developers which means more features and more plugins.

Even I think Wordpress is the best but there are many others which you can have a look at like blogger.com, typepad, blog-city.com, blogeasy, tblog etc.

I really meant script when I said software, but I'm happy with WordPress. I started looking around and there are definitely tons of themes for it. And on the plus side Fantastico installs it for me so I don't even have to bother installing it.

whenever a product has a feature to add-on like plug-in, it is quite extensible, i like it. So, as Wordpress has more plug-ins, my vote to WordPress.

But, however, it may vary also by technologies. If you want java base solution, then try this...http://pebble.sourceforge.net/

also, look at the stable version.

Sue me - I prefer blogger. I sold a wordpress site for $5 after I installed it and didn't like it.

Wordpress is the best to me. Thats really the only one i would ever use. And its free to so dats real good.

I would and every pro blogger would suggest u Wordpress. its simple to install , free and very hassle free. You dont need to be a programmer to install wordpress. just download it from www.wordpress.org. its free
