Best approach to selling a domain

Hi all,

I am brand new to this forum (this is my first post and have a simple but fundamental question for which I would appreciate your feedback:

Is there a consensus regarding the best first place to post a domain for sale in order to get both the maximum exposure to interested, qualified buyers and the highest sales price possible?

Is it Sedo? Afternic? Igloo? Namerific?

In essence, I am asking if there is a clear leader in the field.

I am not a professional domainer, although, over the years, I have registered several names (related to specific projects I was developing). At this time time, to start, I am interested in selling one and have begun researching the sales process.

My domain is:

- five letters
- easily pronounceable
- a .com
- originally registered in 2000

I have never had a website on it and it is not parked (the URL simply leads nowhere right now). I have never tracked visits or traffic. As such, it has never generated revenue.

There is no clear leader. If it's a keyword domain you should check out DNJournal.com for the successful brokers. And approach one of them. If you can get a broker from Sedo to market your domain, I would say they have the most contacts. If its a brandable domain, I'd suggest BrandBucket.com

I generally list my domains on Sedo, Afternic, GoDaddy. GoDaddy has been my most successful service. But it's passive selling. I think you are looking for something more than that.

Excuse me, but that has to be the most popular domaining-related question ever. It always cracks me up.

To put it simply, there is no better place really. The quality of the domain is what matters. Because exposure is not the solution to sell things that nobody wants.
Some platforms have more sales volume but they have large inventories too.

If your domain is really decent, the odds are that you already received unsolicited inquiries/offers (since you say the domain hasn't been developed somebody might think you don't need it and it might be available for sale).

If it's 5 letters and easily pronounced, it probably has some value, but no telling whether that's $10 or 10 thousand without knowing the name. As already said, if you haven't received passive offers already you are not likely to get much when you actively try to sell.
Put it on Sedo for a month or two, and see if you get any offers at all. That should tell you where you stand.

What about a domain name which already is a trademark ? Can we sell them as well. May be to the same company for a better price ? Kindly suggest

Lol...get a lawyer!

Let me put it this way, if you steal your neighbor's car, do you think you have the right to sell it back to him?

Nice one though. But what if the name is too general and in my case If its an abbreviation. How to deal with that.

Suppose FB is a trademark of some other company and FaceBook bought fb,com for some millions what happens in that case :)
