Hey, I'm new to the domain game... Like a week new. I'm a fast learner and I'm confident I could figure out this domain gig without any help, but when I'm interested in something I just want to shut up and learn all of the ins and outs that I can. I have a few domain names that are more than likely 1000% garbage but this is me giving it a shot so I can dust off and come back with something crazy. Any advice is welcomed though PM or reply/email. Thanks in advance!

    Welcome to NP

The best advice is to read through this forum for a few months before buying any names. Spend time reading and researching. Focus on a niche you know something about rather than just some random niche. Don't hand-register names but rather look at dropping/expiring lists. Focus on .com names when starting out, dont go and register .info, org, biz and weak country extensions or new GTLDs (.pizza, .app, service, club etc)

Have a look at namebio.com and DNJournal.com you see what type of names sell

Don't think this is a get rich quick industry, its not and it will more than likely take a few years to get the hang of it.

I have a lot of years ahead of me so I don't mind getting rich slow. As for learning everything through a single PM I know that's unrealistic, what I was really looking for is someone that's been in the industry longer than me (pretty much anyone) and then if I should run into any problems I have a knowledgeable person to ask questions to, but thanks, I will start with some heavy reading.

Nice to connect. As others have rightly suggested, you'll have to begin yourself - starting with the beginners section and subsequently asking questions where you get stuck. Major learning, however, would come through analysing who is buying what and why plus who is selling what and how.

With time, things would start to unfold by themselves.

    All the best.

    Hello,
    Welcome to NP!:xf.smile:

I can tell you the golden key will not be handed to you.
As others said read, research, and study the forum. You will not be handed the key but the information given here is golden and will guide you in the right direction to succeed. You have to do the work and test the waters to figure out what will work for you and then again you may figure out that domaining may not be your thing.

I've read some articles about domaining and they made it sound easy. Then I joined NP to find out there is so much more entailed in it than what I've read in those articles. It is no get rich quick thing and patience is definitely needed.
You've picked a great place to learn here from people who started out just where you are.

You will start to learn the ones who are truly genuine and try to help mentor you to be successful.
Use the search bar for questions you have as they may be answered in other threads.

Don't take criticism personal as it will only help you learn (something I've learned here):xf.wink:

I wish you the best in your new venture and truly hope you succeed. Good luck!:xf.smile:

You can post your names in the appraisals section if you'd like.

I don't mind answering questions whenever I have the time, and if they are not too frequent. Note that I don't always have time.

When I first started, I was very grateful to those who answered my questions.

However, do note like others have said, I did do most of the work on my own and with the help of DNAcademy (this is not a promotion; it seriously cleared up a lot for me and saved me the time of looking through the forum to put it all together).

I only asked questions when absolutely necessary. I was polite, not annoying. And I didn't go around offering my domain names to everyone, pretending my bad hand-regs were premium domain names.

I haven't been domaining for nearly as long as some others on here, but am happy to try and answer any questions I can. NP has been a GREAT learning tool for me and I would also recommend you spend some time reading through the threads. Also, as @Candace mentioned, you may want to check out DNAcademy YouTube videos.

Lastly, do yourself a favor and DO NOT go on a handreg spree before you have a better idea of what works and what doesn't.

May the force be with you sir!

Just be careful who you look at as a mentor, remember the world is not a safe place and there are always a few bad apples. If anyone reaches out to you... great, but be very leery if they reach out and offer you ANY domains. Make sure you research and ask the advice of other members before purchasing domains via private message. The first thing a good mentor will do is tell you not to buy domains until you have a game plan. In the business world we call that a business plan or marketing plan.

So have fun, learn, but keep your guard up at all times.
