RE: Autonomous & Driverless car domains

Seems like there's a lot of news lately, as recently as the last few days, of advances in driverless & autonomous cars. There are multiple auto makers getting ready to launch some form of these cars, and of course, Google is working on their project car.

I have a handful of domains related to this news & technology, and I am wondering if anybody else has any? Also, any spike in traffic to your domains, or news of sales???

Agreed but if hyphenated self-driving appears on the side of cars some will type it with an hyphen.

For example I put X-Ray into google ;)

I think it is gonna be hit and miss besides they duo pretty much has bought all the hyphenated they need and have a list. If you haven't been contacted you may not be contacted. i know cause I talk to him daily. There is no set domain to hunt he just buys what he sees and likes. stats arent a factor.

I was not referring to stats.

I was just saying all the cars that have self driving on the side of their cars have had it grammar correct, which is self-driving.

If I had the choice to buy selfdrivingtaxi or self-drivingtaxi which one would I personally go for? selfdrivingtaxi

But being grammar correct does give self-drivingtaxi an edge over selfdriving-taxi

That was the only point I was referring to regarding hyphenated domains.

But people keep mentioning there are only two people that would buy these types of domains. Lets be honest guys there would not be the general buzz around this niche if it wasn't for the sales they have created.

But this is 2016. They are investors. End users will come searching for domains within this industry at some point.

This is why they are buying up domains. They are not intending starting their own self-driving fleet. They are looking to sell their bought domains onto end users when the tech goes mainstream.

Not decades but at a few years to a decade.
That is how new tech works with domains.
If you want in early you must be prepared to renew sometimes for years.
I have no problem with that :)

The only question I have to your theory is:

Self-driving is the correct way to spell the word

Selfdriving-insurance would be a random hyphen.

Just curious why you would see it otherwise ?

Great question, but it's not my theory. I didn't just make this up on while sitting around one day. Just do some simple research, and let the domaining history speak for itself.

Typically few care how it's written in a dictionary, media article, or Google's nifty decals. In the end, in terms of domain names over the years, drop the hyphenate, first and foremost. If you have to settle for a hyphenate version, [in my opinion and experience in domaining], it's generally better placed between the subject matter and the kw add-on. The beauty of domaining, and the Internet, there are very few rules, so anything is possible, and reinvention happens all the time.

Important to remember, we're all on the same side here, so no need to make a mountain out of a molehill. Maybe you all know something I don't. I'm always open to learn something new or trending changes. What matters most is you found a buyer for the names, and I'm rooting for all of you. However, those handreg'n that type of name in hopes of a quick buck might want to think twice, IMO. Especially those of you passing up xxx & xxxx offers for those names. You could be passing up your only time to sell them. But again, IMO...and for those hard of reading, that's in MY opinion. ;) If I'm wrong, and I hope I am, I'll be the first to admit it.

Fortunately, for some of you here, you've already sold your names and made your money, so congrats. The real challenge will be the buyers not only finding end-users, but finding end-users willing to pay high enough prices to hopefully profit. Either way, I wish them, and all of us, great success in this niche.

I have my handful of names, and am positioned well for the space I wanted to try, and will be happy to watch the development of this technology over the next couple of years. Time will tell, so here's to us all.

Yes I agree with what you clarified about historical sales and sorry for my use of the word "theory" I should have worded it better.

Very classy reply. I really appreciate you replying back with your view ;)

I still believe domains with the keyword self-driving will make a very decent play in this industry alone, I am for once trying to think like an end user apposed to a domainer. And in this instance once the "selfdriving" keywords have been snapped up these exact match grammar correct keywords could be a very appealing brand for a company looking for an exact match brand.

And just to clarify because I know it probably comes across as though I am being very protective about the "self-driving" keyword. I have sold pretty much all of my self-driving keywords so I really have no affiliation left to the keyword.

But you are right, good luck to everyone and I completely agree that there is no general rule when it comes to domaining.

"cars parts", "insurances"?? Apparently grammar has gone out the window in the domaining world!
