Atom / Atom.com - Marketplace (formerly Squadhelp)

Hey Folks,

I've just started using squadhelp.com to list some of my brandable. So far I have 76 domains listed, there is no fee to list. I've had some decent action so far in the way of interested buyers but no sales as of yet. I've only been with them for 1 week now.

A bit of a summary review of SquadHelp:

PROS
  • No Listing fee
  • No Logo design fee
  • Ability to submit your names to end users holding naming contests
  • Ability to chat directly or send a message directly to end users.
  • Stats of your marketplace domains are shown in the marketplace dashboard.
  • Their customer service and support has been great, 24hr a day chat.
  • Ability to increase or decrease the list price of your domains or to show a discount. You can decrease or increase the price yourself by $200. If you want to lower more, you can contact support.
  • End users can shortlist your domains before they make a decision on which they want to purchase. The number of shortlists is shown in you marketplace dashboard.
  • When you submit your names you get to set the price you wish to get. Because their commissions are high I recommend listing at a higher price to offset the commission costs.
  • Their landing pages are fairly basic but they work. Because the marketplace is fairly new, I'm sure we will see style improvements in the future.
  • One thing I really like is they accept multiple extensions. I have listed .co and .io along with .com
  • Each seller gets a direct link to their marketplace portfolio, HERES MY PORTFOLIO. It is handy if your trying to p[promote your portfolio through social media.
  • I like that their marketplace doesn't have tens of thousands domain listings like BB. They are fairly strict on the domains they accept to list and so this helps keep the number of domains in the marketplace down and gets your listings more exposure.
CONS
  • Their commissions are very high, depending on the domain name they are usually between 30% and 35%. However, there are no listing fees, no logo design fees, so in the end their commission is very similar to brand buckets.
  • Their logos are not top quality, in fact I requested to have some of my logos remade.
  • I think they have a big backlog of logos to design, the wait time for logo design has been around 1 week, but your names are still listed while the logos are being designed.
  • After your names are accepted you need to agree to their commission rate, at this point you also need to apply your own keywords, descriptions etc. I found this was very time consuming.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

@Chris Co ,
that's something that I also do. The problem however is that their 'AI Agents' will not promote those keywords well and will stay with the ones that the AI has originally suggested.

I have domains that I have set the proper keyword terms (proper = what the intended industry the domain is for) along with all the needed keywords, possible uses, emotions, etc. more than a month ago but I have yet to see those keywords appear in the 'Visibility in Search' list. They won't even appear in the lowest grades (ie. Good, Fair, etc.)

That's a good point regarding Atom's latest search keywords. I wonder what criteria uses to determine what keywords to add (or if it's just an AI choosing relevant words from the domain name itself). If the rank it assigns is based on user behavior though, it may just need further time to update? 🤷‍♂️

Maybe @Atom.com could improve it further by taking into consideration categories & root words that the user chooses?

Fellow investors,

Make sure your logos are top-notch. On Atom, buyers primarily skim results visually, and the logo is the first thing their eyes land on because it's big and colorful. The domain name is mentioned just below the logo, but it's secondary in that initial glance.

Sure, your domain's intrinsic quality still matters most (no discussion about this), but with over a million listings on the Atom marketplace, a good logo helps you avoid being overlooked.

Personally, I've set aside a small additional budget for each domain name to create a perfect logo, and I just treat it as a one‑time cost on top of the domain registration fee.

While nice logos can't hurt - as long as the word/phrase is very readable, whatever "symbol" resides above or next to it is less relevant imho. Unless of course you truly nail the symbol and it's exactly relevant to the word/phrase.

You could actually pigeonhole a word/phrase that has multiple meanings with a logo. Consider an "abstract" logo could actually be better.

But I do agree - you need to make sure the word/phrase is large and readable. As long as that is true - I think the logo is fine as long as it's professional and doesn't narrow the lane.

@Future Sensors ,
fully agree.

I caught myself recently, when browsing the wholesale section, stopping only on domains that their logos caught my eye!

I also realised how misleading some Atom logos are,
especially when some letters from the domain name are replaced by some symbol giving the impression that the name is something else, usually more valuable, which lead me to disappointment resulting in skipping the domain name entirely.

Had Atom reinvented the No Reserve Auction?

Those .now appraisals are weird. It's as if Atom is using two different appraisal systems. Some names are automatically "awarded" the $40,500 value while some other, arguably great names are low-balled in comparison. (I'm not specifically talking about the screenshot.)

I have a number of these high appraisals that were given in the first few weeks of Atom accepting the gtld as premium.

The one above with a $40000 appraisal won't even hit the $200 reserve.

Fun Fact
CoPilot AI called Atom's AI a 'machine' when I asked how come its appraisal is so low compared to Atom's:
"Automated tools routinely inflate values by 10×–40× above true market liquidity. So a $7,400 machine appraisal..."
That was over an .AI domain :)

I didn't realize Atom's Ai still spits out $40.5k results. That is leftover from the early days of .now appraisals when the system couldn't properly appraise without data. It was the placeholder number it used. It still remains for names that haven't been re-appraised, but once you do, it results in a different number. At least that's' what I've seen. If it's still providing $40,500 results for new .now's - you can force it to provide a proper appraisal by clicking the "scan developed websites", let that process fully complete, and re-running the analysis once all the "developed websites" are checked. This process will also change appraisals even if the prior appraisal was not $40.5k (since the Ai learns how many TLDs are actually live).

@Atom.com speaking of "developed websites" your system shows many for sale pages. it should be easy enough to train the system not to recognize these. For example, it always shows Spaceship's sellerhub lander as "live". That obv isn't developed and as such, messes with the Ai calculations. It also shows OVH landers, and a variety of other "coming soon" pages as developed. it needs a manual fix to "carve" these out.

prices

Edge is live with a below cost price, but it seems you need to hit the 100 names first.

Appears .com transfers are $11.30 for the first 100 names, then $10.87 thereafter.

Will cost $43 extra to transfer 100 coms, to then take advantage of the Edge benefits. @Atom.com it would be nice if we could "qualify" for the $10.87 if we transferred 100 in bulk to you all at once (achieving edge all in one transaction)

EDITED: to add the word "extra"

@NameGroove Thanks for the feedback. If you transfer 100+ domains in a single transaction, our team would be happy to issue an account credit for the fee difference so you receive Atom Edge pricing on that first batch as well. After the transfer, please reach out to our support team and they’ll route the request to the appropriate member of the billing team to issue the credit.

Thanks @Atom.com !

1- can you please provide a .csv example of your bulk upload?
2- Can you please let us know if you have plans to become an Afternic Fast Transfer partner?
Names registered with Afternic FT partners get more marketing via GoDaddy's network (which is why companies like Dynadot, Porkbun, Unstoppable and others have joined). Without it - it becomes a more difficult choice to choose your registrar. If you do intend to become one, can you please provide the timeline?

Nothing special in their prices ! Better to stick with unstoppable .

.
I wholeheartedly agree... I thought Atom would be MUCH more aggressive with their pricing to bring in large portfolio holders, but no... There's simply no incentive at all to migrate over to Atom until they become competitive with Unstoppable, Spaceship, etc...

(Hint, hint... Time to run a "grand opening" transfer-in special, Atom!!!:xf.wink:)
