Atom / Atom.com - Marketplace (formerly Squadhelp)

Hey Folks,

I've just started using squadhelp.com to list some of my brandable. So far I have 76 domains listed, there is no fee to list. I've had some decent action so far in the way of interested buyers but no sales as of yet. I've only been with them for 1 week now.

A bit of a summary review of SquadHelp:

PROS
  • No Listing fee
  • No Logo design fee
  • Ability to submit your names to end users holding naming contests
  • Ability to chat directly or send a message directly to end users.
  • Stats of your marketplace domains are shown in the marketplace dashboard.
  • Their customer service and support has been great, 24hr a day chat.
  • Ability to increase or decrease the list price of your domains or to show a discount. You can decrease or increase the price yourself by $200. If you want to lower more, you can contact support.
  • End users can shortlist your domains before they make a decision on which they want to purchase. The number of shortlists is shown in you marketplace dashboard.
  • When you submit your names you get to set the price you wish to get. Because their commissions are high I recommend listing at a higher price to offset the commission costs.
  • Their landing pages are fairly basic but they work. Because the marketplace is fairly new, I'm sure we will see style improvements in the future.
  • One thing I really like is they accept multiple extensions. I have listed .co and .io along with .com
  • Each seller gets a direct link to their marketplace portfolio, HERES MY PORTFOLIO. It is handy if your trying to p[promote your portfolio through social media.
  • I like that their marketplace doesn't have tens of thousands domain listings like BB. They are fairly strict on the domains they accept to list and so this helps keep the number of domains in the marketplace down and gets your listings more exposure.
CONS
  • Their commissions are very high, depending on the domain name they are usually between 30% and 35%. However, there are no listing fees, no logo design fees, so in the end their commission is very similar to brand buckets.
  • Their logos are not top quality, in fact I requested to have some of my logos remade.
  • I think they have a big backlog of logos to design, the wait time for logo design has been around 1 week, but your names are still listed while the logos are being designed.
  • After your names are accepted you need to agree to their commission rate, at this point you also need to apply your own keywords, descriptions etc. I found this was very time consuming.

Upgrading a large batch from Plus to Premium causes a Host Error (Gateway Time-out) on Atom.com, while Cloudflare is working.

I've seen this several times now.
@Atom.com This 504 Gateway Time-out is now happening every time. Not only when submitting Plus->Premium upgrades in bulk, but also when accepting/approving the Premiums in bulk (final step). Please fix urgently, as this downtime of the End-Host may affect all users.

Basically, I'm no longer able to approve my Premiums in bulk, not even when I select a really small amount of only 10 at a time. The sad thing is, that with every legitimate attempt I'm causing an outage.

Sigh. I've lost 3 domains because of this. From the batch of 57 domains in my recent Plus->Premium upgrade, only 54 are in my portfolio. Atom Support is investigating.

Let's pray that the registrar will be more robust.

Integrity of the backend must have top priority.

โœ… Atom Support has restored the 3 domains, and they're back in my portfolio again.

Has anyone else run into this - I cant see the AI appraisal because "the domain is not accepting offers" but none of my domains have ever been not accepting offers...

Clearly "make offer" is accepting offers, correct?

If I change it BIN then the AI appraisal shows the BIN price. If I change it to PR or MO (what it currently is) I get the 'not accepting offers' message.

I think it's just Atom's policy of not showing appraisals for premium domains.

It makes sense because it could put off potential buyers if it showed a lower estimation than its actually listed for on the marketplace. Instead, it just shows the actual BIN price like you mentioned above.

If it doesn't have a price to use as a placeholder (i.e. you set it to make offer) then it will just give a Not Available message instead.

Ah! OK, that makes sense.

"the domain is not accepting offers"
In fact, the notice on your screenshot of Atom's appraisal tool reads "the domain IS currently accepting offers". I think this is due to the domain being a Premium listing and, precisely, having price set to "Make Offer". For Premium domains listed at BIN, the appraisal tool's notice says appraisal is unavailable because of the domain being listed as Premium, and it shows the current BIN price

OK, I have some domains listed on Atom but I noticed today that even though I made my name servers the Atom name servers that some of my domains list my domains and others go to this page with no mention of my domains. This is pretty shady. It used to work for the ones I forwarded and now does not. No emails about it.

OK, I found out that two of the ones I am having problems with were accepted as a "Good Fit for Premium" and I just ignored it and did not accept because their max listing price really is not what I am looking for and I am not hard up for money.

Also their Atom Commission: 25% of Selling Price really kills it for me. When I get time I will probably give up on this experiment and either use another marketplace or build my own landers. Good things I made logos for most of them for Atom that I can use on my own lander.

In my experience, this happens when domains are pointed to Atom's NS but not listed in your Dashboard. Have you checked your listings, are those domains indeed listed?

It has already been critically discussed that neither Sedo nor Atom are making any effort to delete the premium domains that Atom listed on Sedo. In effect, our old premium domains are blocked for Sedo.

Apparently, Atom no longer wants to allow any Sedo listings of Atom premium domains. The new Portfolio Health Check, which I generally find useful, issued a warning for two premium domains that I listed on Sedo. That's unfortunate. My pricing strategy between Sedo and Atom in these cases can be critically examined, but it doesn't seem to be the issue here.

@Atom.com can you please make the "rejected on" field sortable so I can sort by date? (and see which names were rejected recently vs long ago)?

I see that, thanks! I think what confussed my old eyeballs is the "Not Available" right before it so I was in "negative" mode from that point on. HAHA. I wonder if its even necessary to have "Not Available" in that message, just "This domain is currently accepting offers. Estimated Price is unavailable" as the end of that message is somewhat redundant with "Not Available" anyway?

@Atom.com whenever we set a payment plan on the dashboard, we are required to click the little +/- symbol to open up the payment plan area. So far so good. But then, when we set one, it refreshes the page, requiring us to again click the little +/- symbol to open the payment plan area. If we open an area - it should stay open (stick) until such time as we close the area. Otherwise, you are making us duplicate efforts over and over (needlessly). When managing thousands of names, every click counts. Can you please have the dashboard stick/pin/stay to whatever setting we chose, even upon refresh? Alternatively, allow us to set a payment plan without a full page refresh (like we're able to do with price settings).

A pin option would be perfect, I am always extending the Domain Info section so that I can sort by the Added On date.

It would be great if we could pin sections so they default to being extended after refreshing, and if it would remember our sorting preferences so it would do it automatically from that point on.

Yes, they are listed and I had uploaded logos but I have not accepted their premium service.

100%. Otherwise, everything keeps reverting to whatever default is set and, by definition, since we've opened and filtered the way we want - resetting to default is a real pita. @Atom.com if your intent is that many people want the default, then make the pin/stick but have a button or link to "reset to default". But it shouldn't force the default on us. It makes it incredibly cumbersome when managing large folios
