Atom / Atom.com - Marketplace (formerly Squadhelp)

Hey Folks,

I've just started using squadhelp.com to list some of my brandable. So far I have 76 domains listed, there is no fee to list. I've had some decent action so far in the way of interested buyers but no sales as of yet. I've only been with them for 1 week now.

A bit of a summary review of SquadHelp:

PROS
  • No Listing fee
  • No Logo design fee
  • Ability to submit your names to end users holding naming contests
  • Ability to chat directly or send a message directly to end users.
  • Stats of your marketplace domains are shown in the marketplace dashboard.
  • Their customer service and support has been great, 24hr a day chat.
  • Ability to increase or decrease the list price of your domains or to show a discount. You can decrease or increase the price yourself by $200. If you want to lower more, you can contact support.
  • End users can shortlist your domains before they make a decision on which they want to purchase. The number of shortlists is shown in you marketplace dashboard.
  • When you submit your names you get to set the price you wish to get. Because their commissions are high I recommend listing at a higher price to offset the commission costs.
  • Their landing pages are fairly basic but they work. Because the marketplace is fairly new, I'm sure we will see style improvements in the future.
  • One thing I really like is they accept multiple extensions. I have listed .co and .io along with .com
  • Each seller gets a direct link to their marketplace portfolio, HERES MY PORTFOLIO. It is handy if your trying to p[promote your portfolio through social media.
  • I like that their marketplace doesn't have tens of thousands domain listings like BB. They are fairly strict on the domains they accept to list and so this helps keep the number of domains in the marketplace down and gets your listings more exposure.
CONS
  • Their commissions are very high, depending on the domain name they are usually between 30% and 35%. However, there are no listing fees, no logo design fees, so in the end their commission is very similar to brand buckets.
  • Their logos are not top quality, in fact I requested to have some of my logos remade.
  • I think they have a big backlog of logos to design, the wait time for logo design has been around 1 week, but your names are still listed while the logos are being designed.
  • After your names are accepted you need to agree to their commission rate, at this point you also need to apply your own keywords, descriptions etc. I found this was very time consuming.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

I completely agree. I'm not positive, but I think a lot of them might be automatically approved by their AI tool. Every once in awhile I see wholesale portfolios with garbage. Most are only taken in the 1 extension, Atom score of 5, new registrations, and the first Google results are the domain listed for sale. Some of them are approved in days.

I mentioned it to Atom once. Not sure if they looked into it though.
The issue was way before the AI. There was a lot of garbage when it was Squadhelp, crappy brand name selling crappy names. Which is why I didn't jump in until the rebrand to Atom.

You can find tons of these type of names under 2K or over 50K, which I believe go back to when sellers could list at any price. Un/barely pronounceable 5-10 letter paired with hideous logos were the norm.

Atom is working just fine for me - regular offers and some sales. You just can't fall down the rabbit hole and be worrying about the extra crap.

That said, people with OCD might want to steer clear of Atom.
Good for you, glad to hear.

It's not down for me (Europe). Is the tool (downforeveryoneorjustme.com?) reporting the status correctly, perhaps Atom is giving 403 Forbidden response?

That's very well possible. And they likely only check the closest anycast node, instead of multiple from several ASNs.

it was down for me when I tried to access it - then I went to isitjustdown and it showed down for all. It was only down for a short period - then came back online and now showing the 403 response

Okay. But what was the first "downdetector"? The one I mentioned is always claiming that Atom is down

It indeed says 403 in your screenshot, so Atom is blocking that service from checking.

The concern that Atom is often unreachable (end host) is still legitimate.

Thanks for raising this. We completely understand the concerns around site speed and overall stability. Tools like DownDetector often show Atom as โ€œdownโ€ because we block most automated monitoring services and bot-based crawlers. Since those tools rely heavily on bots to determine uptime, the blocks trigger false outage reports even when the site is fully operational.

That said, we know the experience hasnโ€™t felt perfect on some days. As traffic increases, weโ€™re actively expanding our infrastructure capacity. Several upgrades are already in motion and more are planned for the coming weeks to improve load times and reduce any intermittent slowdowns.

Weโ€™re also implementing additional layers of DDoS protection. We do see periodic attack attempts, and these enhancements are designed to ensure that those spikes donโ€™t impact the user experience.

We appreciate the feedback- it helps us keep improving the platform in the right areas.

Proof that Atom.com doesn't check anything, and lets you list invalid domains.

@Atom.com : It is a bug report, please don't ban my account.

Thanks for pointing this out. This slipped through because your account is set up as a trusted seller.

We offer this option based on a sellerโ€™s history with Atom, number of sales, and overall track record. Trusted-seller accounts can upload domains without going through the standard ownership-verification step, which helps streamline bulk listing for proven sellers, but it does rely on the feature being used responsibly.

Weโ€™ll review this flow and add checks so invalid formats canโ€™t be listed even with bypass access. If the trusted-seller privilege is misused, we may need to take action or reevaluate access to the bypass.

Thanks again for surfacing it.

It seems that every time I go to Atom to check something on my account, this is what greets me:

This seems to be a Dashboard problem, not a site issue as I can get to Atom.com, but once I try to load my Account Dashboard it crashes.

@Atom.com, if you ever want to switch landers, the NamePros landers are a very reliable option.
