Atom / Atom.com - Marketplace (formerly Squadhelp)

Watch
Hey Folks,

I've just started using squadhelp.com to list some of my brandable. So far I have 76 domains listed, there is no fee to list. I've had some decent action so far in the way of interested buyers but no sales as of yet. I've only been with them for 1 week now.

A bit of a summary review of SquadHelp:

PROS
  • No Listing fee
  • No Logo design fee
  • Ability to submit your names to end users holding naming contests
  • Ability to chat directly or send a message directly to end users.
  • Stats of your marketplace domains are shown in the marketplace dashboard.
  • Their customer service and support has been great, 24hr a day chat.
  • Ability to increase or decrease the list price of your domains or to show a discount. You can decrease or increase the price yourself by $200. If you want to lower more, you can contact support.
  • End users can shortlist your domains before they make a decision on which they want to purchase. The number of shortlists is shown in you marketplace dashboard.
  • When you submit your names you get to set the price you wish to get. Because their commissions are high I recommend listing at a higher price to offset the commission costs.
  • Their landing pages are fairly basic but they work. Because the marketplace is fairly new, I'm sure we will see style improvements in the future.
  • One thing I really like is they accept multiple extensions. I have listed .co and .io along with .com
  • Each seller gets a direct link to their marketplace portfolio, HERES MY PORTFOLIO. It is handy if your trying to p[promote your portfolio through social media.
  • I like that their marketplace doesn't have tens of thousands domain listings like BB. They are fairly strict on the domains they accept to list and so this helps keep the number of domains in the marketplace down and gets your listings more exposure.
CONS
  • Their commissions are very high, depending on the domain name they are usually between 30% and 35%. However, there are no listing fees, no logo design fees, so in the end their commission is very similar to brand buckets.
  • Their logos are not top quality, in fact I requested to have some of my logos remade.
  • I think they have a big backlog of logos to design, the wait time for logo design has been around 1 week, but your names are still listed while the logos are being designed.
  • After your names are accepted you need to agree to their commission rate, at this point you also need to apply your own keywords, descriptions etc. I found this was very time consuming.

@Atom.com - bug fix (or enhancement).

I am able to upload names already in my folio. The system doesn't recognize them as uploaded. It should. Since it doesn't, it removes the "Primary Category - Possible Uses" and they must be re-entered. Is it possible to have an error message? Something like "This name is already in your folio"

This bug has been around for a long time. In the past, I lost thousands of tags and descriptions because of it, and Atom had to restore them from backup for me. Since then, I've never once used the CSV upload (update) function for my existing domains again.

@Atom.com - please fix ๐Ÿ™. It's hard to manage thousands of names and we sometimes add ones already in the folio. It wouldn't be so bad if the system kept all the pre-existing data, but since the system does not, one mistake and it wipes a lot of the info. Makes managing folios more difficult than it could be.

Atom - I get premium approvals are subjective and Atom has a tough time to make everyone happy. But your process seems very haphazard since the expert reviewers came on the scene, especially for one of the newer gTLDs (.now). See X tweet for an example

Again, I understand we're all going to have subjective viewpoints and everyone on this board thinks their names are amazing and should get accepted. Clearly this post is not to suggest every name I own should be accepted. I've had hundreds of names rejected in many TLDs and just quietly moved along.

But when I see a keyword like "house" with 460+ TLDs taken - which is the closest synonym for "home" which is consistently on the Top 10 most searched words charts from Sedo & Afternic getting denied... while double keywords like StopAi and FitnessPlan are being accepted - it calls into question the strategy and skillset of the expert reviewers when it comes to the dot now gTLD. Either the expert reviewers need retraining or I do. Maybe some sort of guidance can either be provided to sellers (or perhaps this one fell through the cracks and some internal retraining is required).

Perhaps it may be that you have limited data with which to work so you're testing a large swath of acceptances (and that's why it appears haphazard). Still, rejecting names in the most popular space with 460+ TLDs seems imprudent.

Atom - to provide another example in addition to the above; You recently accepted a dot now Geo. But interestingly had previously denied 100% of the Geos I submitted (at least one of which on the surface appears to be stronger than the one you accepted).

I never brought this up since I get not accepting geos would be acceptable, since Atom is more of a brandable marketplace rather than a Geo/city marketplace. But since you are accepting .now Geos...
@Atom.com here are the stats for your internal review.
I'm going to let you guess which one was accepted vs which one was denied

Mallorca - 8 characters, 3 syllables. 18.7 million tourists with โ‚ฌ17.6 billion spending, 940,000 residents. 273 TLDs taken. 9 exact match sales on NameBio. Exact match com regged in 2003

Mallorca notable stats:
2016/2018: #15 most visited place in the world: Source (ahead of notable places like Rome, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Milan, Madrid, Miami, & Las Vegas).
2022: "Mallorca was chosen as the worldโ€™s top destination of 2022 by Tripadvisor. The Balearic island ranks first in the Travellersโ€™ Choice in the โ€˜Destinationsโ€™ category, a recognition that is based on the opinion of users on its website during the last 12 months."
2025: "Mallorca landed the #5 spot on the global list of the most sought-after travel destinations for summer 2025. The ranking is from the 2025 Travel Report by the Mastercard Economics Institute"

Manchester - 10 characters, 3 syllables. 1.1 million tourists with โ‚ฌ6.4 billion spending. 550,000 residents. 185 TLDs taken. 5 exact match sales on NameBio. Exact match com regged in 2004.

Similar keyword searches & CPC (100k-1M) - see photo.

Mallorca gets 18x the tourists and 3x the spend and is one of the top tourist destinations in the world.
The sole data point in favor of Manchester is that it gets more interest on Google Trends. Perhaps due to Manchester United?

Finally, I'm not bringing this is up to knock the fine city you accepted. I think Geos can have an interesting niche lane in certain categories when paired with certain TLDs. Rather, I'm providing examples so someone internally can look at the process for the dot now TLD. The lack of consistency is what I'm suggesting needs looking into imho.

I've gone as far as Print -> Save as PDF on each edited domain to backup my descriptions, tags, root words etc so I don't lose them.

Interesting info. Since they're a brandable marketplace, I'm guessing Atom's algo sees Manchester as a better brand (since it already is, in terms of Man U or Man City), and I guess this is reflected in the Google Trends. I totally get your point though.
And... (slightly off-topic) I'm amazed that Mallorca/Majorca can get more visitors than the likes of Rome or Vegas. Not what I would have guessed...

Could be. But Manchester is a city - not a brand. More like New York Yankees. Mallorca has a team too - RCD Mallorca (obv not as famous as Man U). Maybe is the "fame" that Atoms reviewers bought into rather than the Top 15 status of Mallorca.

And yes, I too was quite surprised at Mallorca's world tourism ranking. That's what made me buy the name - once I saw it on the Wiki list ahead of those other cities. I've actually been to Mallorca, filled with tourists and cruise ships from Europe. Pretty spot and easy to get to from Europe - and warm.

You and I know that, but I'll guarantee there are likely millions of people who don't! They just hear the name on the sports news and don't put two and two together...

Come on, Manchester is also an English surname so it's hardly comparable to New York.

Is anyone else seeing a massive spike in traffic ONLY coming from within the platform? Seems to be trailing off today but still, no idea why.

Nope, mine is pretty stable for both Lander and Platform views since it started.

I do. It peaked on Friday. It's coming down since then. No idea why either.

Anyone else noticing the stats often donโ€™t match โ€” the map on the main page vs. the one after clicking โ€˜View moreโ€™ (no matter the filters)?

It feels like a tale of two planets.

@Atom.com

The check boxes sitewide are almost invisible. This could be an issue for people with vision problems selecting domains, terms and captchas

Thanks!

Manchester is very straightforward in terms of spelling. Might be a great clothing brand?

I wonder how the Atom audio "How Is It Pronounced?" first interpreted Mallorca? Of course we're able to manually add "my orca"... but I imagine many people are unfamiliar with its pronunciation (radio test difficulty). Also, (perhaps a personal thing, but) I stupidly confuse Mallorca and Mรกlaga ... I've been to both, and Madeira. Anyhow Mallorca seems somehow convoluted to me.
