Atom / Atom.com - Marketplace (formerly Squadhelp)

Hey Folks,

I've just started using squadhelp.com to list some of my brandable. So far I have 76 domains listed, there is no fee to list. I've had some decent action so far in the way of interested buyers but no sales as of yet. I've only been with them for 1 week now.

A bit of a summary review of SquadHelp:

PROS
  • No Listing fee
  • No Logo design fee
  • Ability to submit your names to end users holding naming contests
  • Ability to chat directly or send a message directly to end users.
  • Stats of your marketplace domains are shown in the marketplace dashboard.
  • Their customer service and support has been great, 24hr a day chat.
  • Ability to increase or decrease the list price of your domains or to show a discount. You can decrease or increase the price yourself by $200. If you want to lower more, you can contact support.
  • End users can shortlist your domains before they make a decision on which they want to purchase. The number of shortlists is shown in you marketplace dashboard.
  • When you submit your names you get to set the price you wish to get. Because their commissions are high I recommend listing at a higher price to offset the commission costs.
  • Their landing pages are fairly basic but they work. Because the marketplace is fairly new, I'm sure we will see style improvements in the future.
  • One thing I really like is they accept multiple extensions. I have listed .co and .io along with .com
  • Each seller gets a direct link to their marketplace portfolio, HERES MY PORTFOLIO. It is handy if your trying to p[promote your portfolio through social media.
  • I like that their marketplace doesn't have tens of thousands domain listings like BB. They are fairly strict on the domains they accept to list and so this helps keep the number of domains in the marketplace down and gets your listings more exposure.
CONS
  • Their commissions are very high, depending on the domain name they are usually between 30% and 35%. However, there are no listing fees, no logo design fees, so in the end their commission is very similar to brand buckets.
  • Their logos are not top quality, in fact I requested to have some of my logos remade.
  • I think they have a big backlog of logos to design, the wait time for logo design has been around 1 week, but your names are still listed while the logos are being designed.
  • After your names are accepted you need to agree to their commission rate, at this point you also need to apply your own keywords, descriptions etc. I found this was very time consuming.

@Atom.com

The ability to set a Minimum Price per Domain is a feature I've seen mentioned a few times in "planned updates" and I'm wondering if you have an ETA for that one specifically?

Thanks.

P.S. This new Self-Brokerage Negotiation system is 100x better than before, so big kudos for that update. Negotiation just makes sense now and I can follow and update transactions without issue.

Thanks for your feedback. We just announced our new Bulk Portfolio Management tool which is designed to give you a far more flexible way to update your portfolio. Using this tool you can also set Min Offer amounts at individual domain level.

The tool can be accessed from the top of the new listing dashboard. Here's a direct link:

@Atom.com - Here is what happens when I view the domain classification pages my older names:

The logos are immediately deleted never to be recovered.

The number of older names affected is in the thousands.

Accidentally click the classification icon = logo deleted!
Submit for premium = logo deleted!

I've lost some very nice logos as a result of this.

I brought it up months ago and was informed that the issue had been resolved.

I was able to duplicate it again today.

When this happens, it also changes the add date for the domain, which I find very strange.

Aside from it being industry standard, this is why the view column is important to me.

Thanks for flagging this. We’ve looked into it on our end and haven’t been able to reproduce the issue where clicking the classification icon deletes the logo. That definitely shouldn’t be happening.

If you haven’t already, could you share a few specific examples of domains where this occurred recently? That would help us dig deeper and get to the bottom of it.

@Atom.com I went to your new bulk update tool and attempted to filter by TLD. It only showed a few TLDs - but most were missing. As such, I cannot filter by TLD. Can you please add the ability to filter by all TLDs? .xyz? .now? etc?

Also the bulk update tool is nice as we can now bulk update landers (for example). But to do that we need a filter option to see which are using which (so need a filter by min lander vs standard lander).

* Just to be clear, I was referring to the overall Daily Views chart on the Dashboard, not overall domain 'views data' (which was for life) in the Domain Listings area, but I think that might be coming.

It's now a different kind of chart (XY/scatter) rather than the old bar chart, but it's in the same place as the old one and will have more data - up to 90 days.

It also provides both Lander Traffic and Platform Discovery Views (I assume this is Atom-derived traffic) which is more than we had before.

From my understanding the "Platform Discovery Views" are just number of times the name was shown to someone that was browsing pages full of names.

It can't be actual traffic to the page lander because I can see the keywords people searched to find my names/click through, and that number is MUCH smaller than they views amount they're showing. And tbh the amount of times my names are even being served based on this data seems pretty low for having to give them exclusivity/landers/pay-per-listing..

I just started using Atom within the last 2 months and even though I am already gold with 300+ names approved premium (including a lot of quality after-market names) that are all optimized the way Atom explains in the "best practices", I am certain that I'm not getting my names served anywhere close to those that have been listed longer.

You can see just by browsing all of the different categories that the same names have been shown at the top pages (at least they're all the same since I've begun using), which makes 0 sense to me. If the names are all sitting stagnant, why not rotate in some other names and add some freshness to the mix? It's a bit frustrating.

Yes, I have similar feelings. Basically, whales with thousands of names that come first probably have a much better position.

That magic default sort matters. I can imagine that the top positions could be paid for by some boost option (I think Sedo does something like that). If Atom does not have a paid boost option, then maybe it should be clear with an explanation of how the default sorting for pages like /premium-domains-for-sale works.

Because a general visitor usually has no clue what they are looking for.
They maybe have to keep it static because of web speed and caching, but whales with 10,000+ names and an average pricing of $2000 shouldn't be in an advantageous position.
A good name should be seen also by visitors, not only by whales' crawler bots.

Otherwise, small sellers must push for outbound actions and use Atom mainly as a payment gateway.

Small bug:
Rejecting a domain that has been accepted as premium deletes it from your account. As in it won't appear as premium or plus etc anymore, and you have to re-add the domain and price.

The DOWNLOAD LISTINGS file is including names I deleted from my account (dropped names or sold elsewhere). They should no longer be in my download/export since I deleted them from my account.

Is Atom cooked if they don't lower premium commissions? Spaceship is coming hard. And from the twitter feedback Atom doesn't provide as many buys or offers. I'm still testing Atom, but ready to switch if things don't improve.

I agree 100% that it definitely shouldn't be happening, but it does.

To clarify, when I say older names, I'm referring to names that were added approximately 5 years ago when it was still Squadhelp .

I won't be sharing any further examples.

The reason being, looking at specific examples of where it occurred will not provide any answers or insight into the issue. I would need to provide examples of where it has not yet occurred for it to be reproduced and I'm not willing to do that, because the majority of the logos generated now are garbage compared to those that were generated in bulk for the affected names and I don't want anyone messing them up.

I'm about at this point.

I'm about to remove 200+ aftermarket/strong 2 keyword names that get reg patch searches.

I'll leave my truly made up "brandables", but this exposure I'm seeing right now is not worth the exclusivity, 10% higher pricing where I actually have made sales, & increased commission.

My STR since moving 300ish names to Atom Premium has taken a very noticeable hit.

Same here. Only 50 premiums but 250 Plus. Same names are getting offers on AN/GD even with name servers pointed to Atom. Zero offers here. Testing a few at spaceship. Really like Atom landers, but I don't see where their marketing is worth the high commissions for premium.

Premium listings aren't the way forward in my opinion (said it before). Standard all the way.

I get zero view at AN but have sold 4 names on Atom standard listings in the past year which is ok for 150 listings.

I only submitted 10 names for their Premium level -- they only gave me 10 coins, so that's all I submitted. I'm not going to pay for coins just for the opportunity to pay higher commissions.

All my submissions were accepted but I eventually removed them from listing at Atom because I did not feel it was worth the extra commission they were charging.

I do like several features of Atom, especially the WLM Marketplace -- although I'm only showing my own names (instead of the entire Atom catalog) because nobody could confirm they actually do pay a "finder's fee" when a domain from the Atom catalog is purchased through my WLM.

⚠️ @Atom.com Critical issue: The Export to Google Sheets function is producing inaccurate data. Several domain names appear twice in the export, each time with both current and previous prices and descriptions. These duplicates inflate the count: the export currently lists 3,007 Plus domains, while my Atom Plus account contains only 2,968 (39 duplicates with conflicting info).

Please address this as a matter of urgency. I rely on these exports as a backup, so they must match my account data 100%. Establish the root cause of this, and review other areas to ensure data integrity is fully maintained on your systems.

Exactly what I do. I'm not sure if the detraction of showing others names would be outweighed by the attraction of others showing my names 🤔 although I highly doubt it.
