Atom / Atom.com - Marketplace (formerly Squadhelp)

Hey Folks,

I've just started using squadhelp.com to list some of my brandable. So far I have 76 domains listed, there is no fee to list. I've had some decent action so far in the way of interested buyers but no sales as of yet. I've only been with them for 1 week now.

A bit of a summary review of SquadHelp:

PROS
  • No Listing fee
  • No Logo design fee
  • Ability to submit your names to end users holding naming contests
  • Ability to chat directly or send a message directly to end users.
  • Stats of your marketplace domains are shown in the marketplace dashboard.
  • Their customer service and support has been great, 24hr a day chat.
  • Ability to increase or decrease the list price of your domains or to show a discount. You can decrease or increase the price yourself by $200. If you want to lower more, you can contact support.
  • End users can shortlist your domains before they make a decision on which they want to purchase. The number of shortlists is shown in you marketplace dashboard.
  • When you submit your names you get to set the price you wish to get. Because their commissions are high I recommend listing at a higher price to offset the commission costs.
  • Their landing pages are fairly basic but they work. Because the marketplace is fairly new, I'm sure we will see style improvements in the future.
  • One thing I really like is they accept multiple extensions. I have listed .co and .io along with .com
  • Each seller gets a direct link to their marketplace portfolio, HERES MY PORTFOLIO. It is handy if your trying to p[promote your portfolio through social media.
  • I like that their marketplace doesn't have tens of thousands domain listings like BB. They are fairly strict on the domains they accept to list and so this helps keep the number of domains in the marketplace down and gets your listings more exposure.
CONS
  • Their commissions are very high, depending on the domain name they are usually between 30% and 35%. However, there are no listing fees, no logo design fees, so in the end their commission is very similar to brand buckets.
  • Their logos are not top quality, in fact I requested to have some of my logos remade.
  • I think they have a big backlog of logos to design, the wait time for logo design has been around 1 week, but your names are still listed while the logos are being designed.
  • After your names are accepted you need to agree to their commission rate, at this point you also need to apply your own keywords, descriptions etc. I found this was very time consuming.

The 'Your Trending Names' section on the dashboard currently shows the exact same ordering as the 'View All' list, excluding one domain that has 'contest love'. Do you know the reason why that specific domain has disappeared from the 'Your Trending Names' section? @Atom.com

The Top Trending Names is the default view when you go into "your Portfolio". The setting defaults to "Best Match" (which is the same as Top Trending Names").

Based on my learning over time and after asking this question to Atom CS months ago I believe it means the following:

These are not trending names (nor best match). What they show are your names that are closest to the top of the search results within their respective categories. They still may appear quite low - but again, they are the highest of your names. Assuming I am correct, the naming nomenclature is off and "best match" is more appropriate than "top trending".

Please know I could be incorrect as the CS answers were somewhat vague and I had to piece together an understanding from them and my eyes. However, if I am correct, this is useful in the following way: you can go to the end of your best match list and see which of your names are not appearing near the top. Modify the categories, keywords, emotions, etc and perhaps even refresh the logo to more appropriately target potential end users. Basically, retool all the items you're allowed to, in an attempt to reframe your marketing efforts for those names at the end of the list. If this doesn't help, it may be the name is simply low(er) quality and/or in a highly competitive category.

Dear @Atom.com

Please fasten the process of approving/declining the domains submitted to move their ownership to atom .

Two days ago I submitted a domain to move ownership to atom because i planned not to renew it , BUT if atom delay to reply for approving/declining and domain expired or need a redemption fees to pay THEN it means atom is part of the issue ! and i cant be guilty alone, and later i will receive the threatening email why you didn't inform us one month in advance and the story of downgrading etc ..
So please fasten your approving/declining process !!

I never heard of this. What is it? You can switch from a Premium where you carry the renewal to attempt to have Atom carry the renewal? or?

Is your traffic being forwarded to Atom or somewhere else?
All of my plus names use atom name servers and landers, any standard names Iโ€™m using other landing pages

This option not available to every premium domain, if you check some domains have it & some no , ATOM provide this option to specific domains seems they like and fit their taste/mood/category/criteria etc ..
if they approve they will carry the renewal and you get %25 if sold during first year .

Thanks for flagging these. Our engineering team has confirmed that this issue has been resolved. Please let us know if you still experience any issues.
Everything is working fine now. Thanks for rapid attention to this.

Then the sale was likely traffic/search related and had nothing to do with the move to Plus, as 90-95% of your offers will come from the marketplace you forward type-in, backlink and search engine traffic to.

I believe this as well. In fact, I'm not sure that moving names from Standard to Plus is actually worth it.

There are quantifiable sales benefits to moving a qualifying Standard domain to Premium, but to me, the only reasons to switch a Standard to Plus would be to a) utilize Atom brokers or b) to list on secondary markets like Sapphire.

If they want your name, it may be worth renewing. :) But 25% of their potential sale is better than nothing.

Why the Atom Appraisal Section shows the following:
Not Available
Currently, the Estimated Pricing feature is not available for this TLD: Com
Thanks.

@Atom.com

Looks like the custom phone number shows on the main page and on each domain of the white label which is good.
Custom email shows "mailto:0" and favicon reverts back to the Atom favicon when ya click on a domain.

What benefits do you receive for paying the $10 fee for public auctions?

I apparently caught a name that was once upon a time an atom premium as it still shows 8k+ views and 83 shortlists as soon as I added it to atom as standard. I was not aware the history would skew my current statistics. I guess it doesn't hurt to have it still be there, but I haven't seen any mention of this before. Any best practices for a situation like this?

I'm using this as a way to update the keywords on my landing pages that are at the bottom as it seems accurate what you described.

I am curious to those who have been on the platform longer - do you keyword stuff words in the root domain keywords? For instance something like payapp.com would you put pay + app + fintech to get the extra fintech boost?

Same with me when I first joined Atom and it's not just stats - if your domain was previously listed on Atom, you might have resident Logos, Descriptions, Keywords, etc. on the lander, and worst of all, LTO settings may also be different from your global settings, and will have to be manually adjusted on a name-by-name basis.

It's easy to find some of this info on the Dashboard, but I had to get Support involved to remove a few of the old logos are they seemed to be hardwired to the domain.

That's why when I renew domains, I then load them individually to see the lander and determine if there is anything I missed.

Yep this happened exactly for me.

And it also is what spurred my second question I asked. Because whoever the owner was stuffed keywords way differently than I have been. The root domain keywords are 3 words not even in the domain.
