Atom / Atom.com - Marketplace (formerly Squadhelp)

Hey Folks,

I've just started using squadhelp.com to list some of my brandable. So far I have 76 domains listed, there is no fee to list. I've had some decent action so far in the way of interested buyers but no sales as of yet. I've only been with them for 1 week now.

A bit of a summary review of SquadHelp:

PROS
  • No Listing fee
  • No Logo design fee
  • Ability to submit your names to end users holding naming contests
  • Ability to chat directly or send a message directly to end users.
  • Stats of your marketplace domains are shown in the marketplace dashboard.
  • Their customer service and support has been great, 24hr a day chat.
  • Ability to increase or decrease the list price of your domains or to show a discount. You can decrease or increase the price yourself by $200. If you want to lower more, you can contact support.
  • End users can shortlist your domains before they make a decision on which they want to purchase. The number of shortlists is shown in you marketplace dashboard.
  • When you submit your names you get to set the price you wish to get. Because their commissions are high I recommend listing at a higher price to offset the commission costs.
  • Their landing pages are fairly basic but they work. Because the marketplace is fairly new, I'm sure we will see style improvements in the future.
  • One thing I really like is they accept multiple extensions. I have listed .co and .io along with .com
  • Each seller gets a direct link to their marketplace portfolio, HERES MY PORTFOLIO. It is handy if your trying to p[promote your portfolio through social media.
  • I like that their marketplace doesn't have tens of thousands domain listings like BB. They are fairly strict on the domains they accept to list and so this helps keep the number of domains in the marketplace down and gets your listings more exposure.
CONS
  • Their commissions are very high, depending on the domain name they are usually between 30% and 35%. However, there are no listing fees, no logo design fees, so in the end their commission is very similar to brand buckets.
  • Their logos are not top quality, in fact I requested to have some of my logos remade.
  • I think they have a big backlog of logos to design, the wait time for logo design has been around 1 week, but your names are still listed while the logos are being designed.
  • After your names are accepted you need to agree to their commission rate, at this point you also need to apply your own keywords, descriptions etc. I found this was very time consuming.

Thanks Bob - I can't tell you how many hours I have spent in Atom's guides and other areas of the website and never once came across this information. It's been a tiny bit troubling how much outdated info and just lack of info is in the help section.

I am also questioning the legitimacy of their premium approval rates..I submitted 65 names in the last 24 hours that are good, but nowhere near my best, and I'm at close to100% approval rate so far. I have 21 more that are still pending, but the rest have all been approved almost immediately (within ~20 mins max of submission)

Youโ€™re doing something right. Are most all .coms? Also are most of your domains priced below Atomโ€™s price values? Thanks

All .coms and priced within range or upper echelon.

I also have a lot of time in the market though so I know what names sell in my experiences anyhow, and I've long since dropped all my beginner rookie mistake regs.

Biggest thing I look for in a name is alliteration, 2 real dictionary words that make sensee together, minimal syllables and incorporation of latest/emerging tech.

The last 2 weeks I set a goal to add 1 new brandable name back to my portfolio per day and shared them in the reg of the day thread. Each one of them was instantly approved if you'd like to see examples of the names I personally have success with that don't require heavy aftermarket capital investment Example Post 1 Example Post 2

I also have xx,xxx - xxx,xxx names I invested into, but I like to keep a diverse portolio.

Is there any indication that when a seller advances to the next tier the domains that they entered from a lower tier are eligible to increase those names which were approved at the lower tier within the same parameters of the higher tier?

Say that 5 times fast.

You have a great eye for brandables. That example post 1 is excellent imho

Nice names. I'm mostly two word .com names too, but mostly product or service descriptions. I loved Dan, but still learning the ropes here. Thanks

Can anyone confirm or deny that?

Thanks Bob for this!

So I am pretty sure I understand what you mean..

@Bob Hawkes @Optimal Names

Last night of those 65 names I submitted to premium over 50 have now been approved and are live which brought me to "Silver" which claims to allow a 50% change in range on your pricing.

I didn't want to change the pricing on many of the names from the range I was allotted, but I went to test it out to see the new Silver features, and I was not able to go outside of the pre-set limit.

I messaged support and they said that if I want to go outside of the range, even though 50% is clearly stated in the features, that I would still have to submit for review to Atom as to why I want it priced outside of the range.

So @Atom do you mind weighing in on what support said, and what the actual 50% policy is? Because as of now it's incredibly deceptive.

Maybe give it 24 hours for the system to recognize you... then you may notice the price ranges increased (or possibly not). But I recall sometimes the system takes an extra day to recognize new levels.

I just received an email a few minutes ago welcoming me to silver and now have the silver tag in the top right corner. Sure enough my ranges are wider now.

You provided better info than the support agent :tightlyclosedeyes:

I was just about to say this. As I recall, at each level there is a little delay between when you achieve it and when it is active. It is only after the email comes that the price flexibility will be active.

I just read above that was the case for @TotalWebsites โ€“ glad that it worked out for you now.

So I moved names from Afternic to Atom... I changed the DNS to Atom, left them as Standard listings, made them BIN and/or Make Offer on Atom, removed the pricing and turned on Make Offer on Afternic. Now I'm getting offers via Afternic -- but not via Atom. Strange, right?

Atom CS is solid. But I lived through it. They were only trained on it (and on everything else all at once). Users have a good perspective sometimes. When you learn stuff first hand you tend to recall it more easily.

I've seen several people say it's happened this way and vice versa.

All I know is I can confidently say I have not received an Afternic or Atom offer since making all of these changes upon the announcement of the Spaceship marketplace

Were they BIN at Afternic before? If they went from BIN to MO then this might have opened the names up to new buyers who would shy away from a BIN outside their budget. If everything was MO at AN before, then yeah, that is a bit strange.

That's a good point. I'm not sure which names on Afternic were BIN and which were Make Offer, but that certainly could explain it. Thanks!

Now I'm getting offers via Afternic GoDaddy-- but not via Atom. Strange, right?

This sometimes happens when a corporate buyer types in your domain and finds it at Atom, then is told by his boss to "see if it's at GoDaddy" (remember, Afternic no longer exists as a brand) since they are corporate automatons and try to cover their asses at all times.

So they find it by searching GoDaddy and try to to buy it there, and have confirmed this with many corporate sales I've sent checkout links to and been asked to using GoDaddy instead. When I asked why, the above is what I'm being told - basically, they'd rather submit a PO with GoDaddy in the header.

Could be, but there have been 3 offers (on 3 different names) from Afternic/GoDaddy in the past 24 hours. That's not typical for me.

Also, I wonder if some people just don't SEE that they can make an offer on Atom's landing page since it's located in a different "box" down below the BIN and Pay in Installments pricing (instead of being grouped together in the same box)?

For those of you who use the Make Offer feature, do you think moving the Make Offer box up so it's located together with the pricing info would be better or worse than where it's located now? Here's what I mean:

I get offers on my BIN only names - so I think buyers who want to make offers, do

So are all three of the GoDaddy offers for domains that are BIN at Atom?

If so, it could just be lowballers who don't want to pay your BIN.
