Atom / Atom.com - Marketplace (formerly Squadhelp)

Hey Folks,

I've just started using squadhelp.com to list some of my brandable. So far I have 76 domains listed, there is no fee to list. I've had some decent action so far in the way of interested buyers but no sales as of yet. I've only been with them for 1 week now.

A bit of a summary review of SquadHelp:

PROS
  • No Listing fee
  • No Logo design fee
  • Ability to submit your names to end users holding naming contests
  • Ability to chat directly or send a message directly to end users.
  • Stats of your marketplace domains are shown in the marketplace dashboard.
  • Their customer service and support has been great, 24hr a day chat.
  • Ability to increase or decrease the list price of your domains or to show a discount. You can decrease or increase the price yourself by $200. If you want to lower more, you can contact support.
  • End users can shortlist your domains before they make a decision on which they want to purchase. The number of shortlists is shown in you marketplace dashboard.
  • When you submit your names you get to set the price you wish to get. Because their commissions are high I recommend listing at a higher price to offset the commission costs.
  • Their landing pages are fairly basic but they work. Because the marketplace is fairly new, I'm sure we will see style improvements in the future.
  • One thing I really like is they accept multiple extensions. I have listed .co and .io along with .com
  • Each seller gets a direct link to their marketplace portfolio, HERES MY PORTFOLIO. It is handy if your trying to p[promote your portfolio through social media.
  • I like that their marketplace doesn't have tens of thousands domain listings like BB. They are fairly strict on the domains they accept to list and so this helps keep the number of domains in the marketplace down and gets your listings more exposure.
CONS
  • Their commissions are very high, depending on the domain name they are usually between 30% and 35%. However, there are no listing fees, no logo design fees, so in the end their commission is very similar to brand buckets.
  • Their logos are not top quality, in fact I requested to have some of my logos remade.
  • I think they have a big backlog of logos to design, the wait time for logo design has been around 1 week, but your names are still listed while the logos are being designed.
  • After your names are accepted you need to agree to their commission rate, at this point you also need to apply your own keywords, descriptions etc. I found this was very time consuming.

Hi @Atom.com

Can you please explain the concept of 'shortlisting' again? Does this mean more than 200 end users/people visited the domain landing page and actually clicked the shortlisting button(❤️) then none of them ever showed up again? I have hundreds of domains with hundreds of shortlists.

It doesn't really make sense does it ... I think it is other domainers and people that submit entries to Atom naming competitions. This really should be filtered out so that people can get a proper view in order to make decisions on wherever to renew domain or not.

I would be interested to here the official response from @Atom.com also.

Hi @Atom,

Piggybacking on the comments above, I'm curious why shortlist/view/etc. data aren't available for viewing in time-limited increments? (E.g. Daily/Weekly/Monthly/Yearly) It seems like the only category where time-bound info is available is "Buyer interest" where the option "Strong-30 days" appears.

As I'm sure you're aware, domain investors utilize such period-specific data to plan for renewals, pricing, discounts and promotions. Other platforms provide such functionality, so I suspect the technical challenges in providing this information aren't too insurmountable - Any chance Atom plans to address this issue in the near future?

While I understand that Atom have mentioned in the past that there's no definitive correlation of "Repeat visits" to puchase, any hypothesis around what exactly is happening in these domains that many of us have - with dozens of repeat visits.

Who exactly are coming back to the page? Other domain investors / designers / Atom team?? Or is is a tracking issue?

And why? I find it strange to believe that dozens of serious buyers will visit the page and not even make an enquiry with the chat team.

Yep, there in lies the mystery of stats without context.

In my case, I found out that some of these repeated visits were in fact my own views of the domain's landing page when I wanted to check what it looked like after making any change (price, LTO terms, logo, etc.).

Atom has shown that repeat visits DO correlate quite well with an increase in STR. See Tip #17 here

What is the fastest method for updating 1,000+ domain names for Price and adding a discount? Can you do Both at the same time, or do you have to do the Price first, then add the discount?

Using the UI, I can filter on Price to give me the names I want to change, but it is Brutally slow when performing the updates (500 at a time due to max number shown on a page).

That's actually quite interesting.

So there are domains that sell even without repeat visits (or repeat visits not recorded).

Assuming that those names without repeat visits sell at eg 2%, the names WITH 4+ repeat visits convert only at 4%. I would've expected a much bigger difference.

Hi @Atom.com

For Premium domains, and perhaps for all domains, consider offering a sleek PDF version that potential buyers can download to help convince other decision makers within their organization.

Most domains don't sell. Once you take that into account, seeing 2x is quite a lift.

Yeah, the way I see it - Repeat visits are actually one layer in the conversion funnel. How many will buy it on the 1st visit, without coming to the page for the second time? I've run remarketing campaigns myself, so I understand it.

That's why I'm surprised. What's likely happening is - The Consent Management (for analytics) is messing up these metrics. Many users may decline giving analytics cookie permissions. So, Atom has no way to link repeat visits for such users. But they might convert, giving a health STR for zero-repeat visitors.

Good thoughts - that is likely another reason STR is only 2x

I think the repeat visits mostly coming from the atom retargeted ads , When someone show interest and browse the domain landing page (1st time ) then will be retargeted again by the ads , and later when they visit landing page again (2nd time ) then will show it as repeat visits .

This probably sounds obvious, but have you checked your payment settings to make sure no one gained access to your account and changed them?

Other than that, just wait for Atom billing to determine if it's been refused or held/delayed for some reason.

Yes, checked the payment settings and for sure those have my bank ac details only.

I checked my details and again reauthenticated my Wise details and made a withdrawal again on 18-April but this time I have not yet received any mail.

Also, I withdrew from Brandbucket today using same bank details via Wise and I received the amount in my bank within a few seconds.

I have informed Atom bt the same.

Also since last 1-2 months I have noticed that sometimes I do not get immediate mails for withdrawals, sometimes I get mails immediately. Is this happening to other sellers as well?

Any other sellers facing withdrawal issues with Atom?

What country are you from? You may be able to open an acct at this bank (I am not affiliated with them in any way nor have I used them). And they are not FDIC insured, so I wouldn't leave money in there. But as a bank, it may allow you easier transfers and acceptance of monies instead of these transfer services.

I’ve just filed a bug report regarding an issue with Standard/Plus landers: uploaded logos are displaying as blurry or pixelated on large/normal screen. This appears to be due to an added ?width=xxx parameter at the end of the img.atom.com URL. The problem doesn’t affect all landers yet. It might be related to a malfunction in screen resolution detection. The issue started today. Atom is already investigating, but if you notice this too, please share your observations here so we can pinpoint and resolve the root cause faster.

Hi @Atom.com

I am bidding in one of your auctions. I saw your terms which state "If a bid is placed within the final 10 minutes of an auction, the auction end time will automatically extend by an additional 60 minutes to accommodate active bidding." So I placed my bid 12 minutes before the end of the auction and no add'l bids were placed after me. yet the auction time was extended 1 hour. Either you have a bug - or your terms need to be updated to reflect whatever your current policy is.

Please let everyone know which it is.

I'm not entirely sure what's been causing this, but it appears the issue has been resolved. The img.atom.com URL now includes the ?class=show parameter like it used to be, and the images seem to be sized correctly, without blurring.

Edit: I now understand that the issue was the result of some experimental changes. Fortunately, Atom's technical team quickly identified and resolved the issue.
