Atom / Atom.com - Marketplace (formerly Squadhelp)

Hey Folks,

I've just started using squadhelp.com to list some of my brandable. So far I have 76 domains listed, there is no fee to list. I've had some decent action so far in the way of interested buyers but no sales as of yet. I've only been with them for 1 week now.

A bit of a summary review of SquadHelp:

PROS
  • No Listing fee
  • No Logo design fee
  • Ability to submit your names to end users holding naming contests
  • Ability to chat directly or send a message directly to end users.
  • Stats of your marketplace domains are shown in the marketplace dashboard.
  • Their customer service and support has been great, 24hr a day chat.
  • Ability to increase or decrease the list price of your domains or to show a discount. You can decrease or increase the price yourself by $200. If you want to lower more, you can contact support.
  • End users can shortlist your domains before they make a decision on which they want to purchase. The number of shortlists is shown in you marketplace dashboard.
  • When you submit your names you get to set the price you wish to get. Because their commissions are high I recommend listing at a higher price to offset the commission costs.
  • Their landing pages are fairly basic but they work. Because the marketplace is fairly new, I'm sure we will see style improvements in the future.
  • One thing I really like is they accept multiple extensions. I have listed .co and .io along with .com
  • Each seller gets a direct link to their marketplace portfolio, HERES MY PORTFOLIO. It is handy if your trying to p[promote your portfolio through social media.
  • I like that their marketplace doesn't have tens of thousands domain listings like BB. They are fairly strict on the domains they accept to list and so this helps keep the number of domains in the marketplace down and gets your listings more exposure.
CONS
  • Their commissions are very high, depending on the domain name they are usually between 30% and 35%. However, there are no listing fees, no logo design fees, so in the end their commission is very similar to brand buckets.
  • Their logos are not top quality, in fact I requested to have some of my logos remade.
  • I think they have a big backlog of logos to design, the wait time for logo design has been around 1 week, but your names are still listed while the logos are being designed.
  • After your names are accepted you need to agree to their commission rate, at this point you also need to apply your own keywords, descriptions etc. I found this was very time consuming.

As already reported by others, the number of registered TLDs is currently wrong for a lot of domains. Not only in the "Domain Appraisal" section for a single domain, but also in the main portfolio overview of Premium and Standard/Plus domains.

After clicking through to an individual appraisal for a domain, the number of registered TLDs is erroneously decremented to "1" for many domains. Checking with other tools like dotDB shows that the info is indeed inaccurate.

To what extent does this bug influence ranking within the marketplace, as part of the algo?

@Atom.com Please have a look at this, and fix. Thank you.

Thank you for your feedback. Our engineering team is currently looking into this issue. In the meantime, if you come across any specific domains where the TLD registration data appears incorrect, please share those examples with us via live chat. These reports are extremely helpful in identifying patterns and resolving the issue more quickly.

Did everyone know while we are allowed to cross post Atom Premium names on Afternic, we are only allowed to list as BIN and not LTO?

I just learned this today.

Is there any specific reason for it @Atom.com ? Darpan has shown LTO lifts STR - and disallowing it for our Afternic listings, reduces our STR. Probably by a good amount for higher priced names.

Not sure how it matters since you're allowing us to sell on AN anyway. How would a LTO sale differ from a BIN one (to you)?

As background, Premium listings are exclusive to Atom due to the significant marketing investment we make to promote these domains. To maximize visibility, we syndicate them to Sedo and other partners, giving them additional exposure across hundreds of registrars and through a broad network of partners we've established (and growing).

We also allow sellers to manually list Premium domains on Afternic to ensure visibility across all potential buyer search paths. In many cases, buyers initially discover these domains through Atom’s marketing but complete the purchase through their preferred registrar because they already have domains at that registrar. We support that flexibility and do not charge any commission on such external sales. In fact, we go a step further by offering a commission match program, where we make an additional payment to sellers when these sales happen outside our platform.

However, enabling payment plans (LTO) on third-party platforms increases the risk of sales leaking away from Atom, even when the buyer was acquired through our marketing efforts. Since we don’t earn any commission on those sales, it creates an imbalance—we carry the marketing cost, while the transaction closes elsewhere.

Requiring BIN-only pricing on external platforms helps limit that leakage while still ensuring strong visibility. We believe this is a fair and balanced compromise—it allows sellers to benefit from broad exposure while enabling us to continue investing aggressively in promoting Premium domains.

For sellers who prefer full flexibility without exclusivity, we also offer Standard and Plus listings, which have no such restrictions.

We should have the option to disable Domain Talk. I’ve been waiting for them to fix Domain Talk on a domain for four days now. Instead, I would prefer to turn it off and turn it back on once it’s fixed.
Contacted with chat 2 times to disable it, seems like it's not possible at the moment and they're still waiting for a reply from the related team.
I don't know to what extent Domain Talk already takes into account the Description fields. In some cases, these Descriptions already tell in great detail, and professionally, how the domain can be used (and without lighthouses). My suggestion is therefore to have Domain Talk take much more account of well-structured descriptions for these domains, especially in case these Descriptions are more advanced than the standard AI-generated paragraph provided by Atom.

Another question: from now on, will Domain Talk only appear if the Seller manually requests this with audio points, or will Atom continue to add Domain Talk independently to selected domains?

Thanks for everyone's feedback regarding Domain Talk! We’ve now added Domain Talk generation and deletion capabilities directly within the dashboard, so you can easily remove any audio you don’t find suitable. You can also regenerate the audio by providing additional context—such as pronunciation tips or intended use cases—if the AI doesn't get it right the first time.

Domain Talk is a completely optional feature, and while the overall response has been very positive, we have no intention of forcing it on any lander.

We’ll be rolling out some Beta credits later today or tomorrow so sellers can experiment with the feature across their domains. In the meantime, here’s a detailed help article on how to delete audio if needed:

@silentg

You need to visit the full domain details page and then you'll see "delete" button right under the domain talk section.

I just tried and it works.

The Male voice speaks at the right volume level. Atom has yet to fix the level for the Female voice.

Domain Talk is able to pronounce ".org" like a human would do. Finally.

Atom has yet to fix this for the "Hear it" function, where ".org" is pronounced as three separate letters like O... R... G.

Thank you very much for your detailed response. I agree you are supplying valuable marketing efforts. I see now why you don't want to allow LTO. It is further corroboration of the power of LTO.

Do you have any data you can share on the price level where LTO lifts STR vs when it doesn't (e.g., I wonder if it is helpful for names listed for <$3k.) Or is there no price curve? That is, it always lifts STR - at all price points? I'd like to enable it on more of my Atom Premiums and am wondering if it is appropriate for price greater than $X or all prices.

Thank you, Atom, for adding enhanced voice options today. I’ve just produced 100 Domain Talks with the complimentary audio credits, featuring Jack’s voice. The outcome is impressive for select names—paired with the already existing Descriptions and visuals. Combined, it invites visitors to explore every facet of a domain’s potential, and make them stay longer on the lander.

Having the same issue and posted about it a few days ago
https://www.namepros.com/threads/atom-atom-com-marketplace-formerly-squadhelp.1120686/post-9365599

Atom hasn't responded to that post (yet) and there is no fix (or free way). You simply have to retry over and over.
That's a shame. Would love a reply from Atom, but appears they glossed over this issue but answered others. I was considering trying out Atom for some of my domains but if it can't get the logos right, I probably won't bother for now.

@Atom.com Is there a delay in activating Domain Talk on the external landers for Plus listings? Domain Talk is present when visited on www.atom.com/name/{domain} (internal marketplace) but not present on domains.atom.com/lpd/name/{domain} (external Plus lander after redirect). For Premium listings it shows on both immediately (internal and external lander).

Hmm.. They only gave me 20 audio credits. Does it depend on the tier?
