Atom / Atom.com - Marketplace (formerly Squadhelp)

Hey Folks,

I've just started using squadhelp.com to list some of my brandable. So far I have 76 domains listed, there is no fee to list. I've had some decent action so far in the way of interested buyers but no sales as of yet. I've only been with them for 1 week now.

A bit of a summary review of SquadHelp:

PROS
  • No Listing fee
  • No Logo design fee
  • Ability to submit your names to end users holding naming contests
  • Ability to chat directly or send a message directly to end users.
  • Stats of your marketplace domains are shown in the marketplace dashboard.
  • Their customer service and support has been great, 24hr a day chat.
  • Ability to increase or decrease the list price of your domains or to show a discount. You can decrease or increase the price yourself by $200. If you want to lower more, you can contact support.
  • End users can shortlist your domains before they make a decision on which they want to purchase. The number of shortlists is shown in you marketplace dashboard.
  • When you submit your names you get to set the price you wish to get. Because their commissions are high I recommend listing at a higher price to offset the commission costs.
  • Their landing pages are fairly basic but they work. Because the marketplace is fairly new, I'm sure we will see style improvements in the future.
  • One thing I really like is they accept multiple extensions. I have listed .co and .io along with .com
  • Each seller gets a direct link to their marketplace portfolio, HERES MY PORTFOLIO. It is handy if your trying to p[promote your portfolio through social media.
  • I like that their marketplace doesn't have tens of thousands domain listings like BB. They are fairly strict on the domains they accept to list and so this helps keep the number of domains in the marketplace down and gets your listings more exposure.
CONS
  • Their commissions are very high, depending on the domain name they are usually between 30% and 35%. However, there are no listing fees, no logo design fees, so in the end their commission is very similar to brand buckets.
  • Their logos are not top quality, in fact I requested to have some of my logos remade.
  • I think they have a big backlog of logos to design, the wait time for logo design has been around 1 week, but your names are still listed while the logos are being designed.
  • After your names are accepted you need to agree to their commission rate, at this point you also need to apply your own keywords, descriptions etc. I found this was very time consuming.

Hey guys, do you see any correlation between 'strong buyer interest'and sales?
is there any estimated STR or same as shortlists?
Atom doesn't give us enough data to draw any conclusions. None of their data has any context related to time frames. Total Views and Total Shortlists are lifetime so no means to see any growth, decline or trend.

Also, their "stats" are no doubt heavily skewed by other domainers and creatives (contests and logo devs) shortlisting names.

Given Atom gives us nothing of worth I can't imagine their stats being anything other than vanity metrics.

Atom has mentioned repeat buyer views do correlate to higher STR and it appears that is part of how they calculate "Strong Buyer Interest". You can see Tip #17 on this post for that data: https://www.namepros.com/blog/17-proven-tips-for-better-domain-sell-through-rates.1349455/

Unfortunately those views are muddled by wholesale buyer views, creative views, domainer views, and CS support views. And as the previous poster noted - it's lifetime, so those views could be very old and the buyer moved along. So I'd doubt you'd be able to make a strong correlation - although one would think it wouldn't be a negative correlation.

Personally, I'll pay more if it's Premium. Now that Atom stopped including in their appraisal tool whether or not a domain was previously rejected, I think of all Standard domains as either having been rejected or so bad they would never be approved. Recently bought 2 domains with scores of 9+. Found out they had been previously rejected, and Atom rejected them again. Fortunately, I didn't pay much for them.
Previously rejected doesn't mean the name would never get sold and all accepted aren't going to be sold. We have to wait until the time comes for a domain.

A name could be rejected for various reasons but that's not going to affect the potential of that domain.

Displaying the previously rejected status in the tool which is publicly available will affect the sale of the particular domains though if the potential buyer analyses the name using the tool.

To know whether a name is premium or Standard/Plus probably they could include a symbol attached to the domain in the internal marketplace.

Does anyone have an idea on the rough views & STR you get for a premium vs standard listing on Atom ?

The commission is 400% higher - 7.5% to 30%. Is it worth it ?

I sold 2 names that I held for 7 and 10 years prior that never sold (previously listed on Afternic & Sedo). Once they were labeled Atom Premium, they sold.
Same thing happened to me early last year at BrandBucket - 10 year old listing, got curated there and sold in first week on platform.

Now as I've explained in other threads providing an example like this is called "Availability bias". I'm providing data from readily avail sources (like my own portfolio). While easy - it only provides anecdotal info and is not statistically significant. Think of it as noise - but it is how everyone shares and makes decisions (incorrectly I might add).

However unless Atom shares the true data of Premium vs Standard STR sales, sale amounts, DNS history, and age, anecdotal info is what we have to use for now.

My best suggestion is to test Atom with a subset of your names. Give it a whirl and see how it works for your folio. If you reach out to others - you'll hear everything. Some who sell, some who don't, some who did but now do not, others who think Premium works but aren't sure. Better to try it for yourself - until we're able to get actual data to corroborate.

@Atom I believe the text Number of times your domains were shortlisted by prospective buyers should be changed to Number of times your domains were shortlisted by prospective buyers, contest creatives, logo developers and fellow Atom domainers.

Hey Atom superusers, navigation on their website is sometimes a challenge. Can you help:
  • Somebody noticed Sedo syncing of Sapphire listings similar to Premiums in this or another thread. Where is the setup?
  • Is there a bulk setting possibility for the choice BIN/MO/PR?
  • Is there a bulk setting possibility for enabling minimal landing page?

Not really an all-in-one area, but there are multiple settings you can use under Marketplace Settings affecting these 3 facets.

  • Is there a bulk setting possibility for enabling minimal landing page?

Again, this is under Marketplace Settings, in the 3) Merchandising and Presentation sub-section, right at the top of the page.

I would prefer to choose names in my list and bulk change price settings BIN/MO/PR.

Same here. If I get it right there are two ways to change the lander: either decide between full page / minimal page for the whole account OR adapt lander settings for the single domain by editing its classification in the domain list. Very time consuming, especially as we often need to experiment with settings.

@Atom.com - domain appeals are now at >100 days, and counting. ๐Ÿซค
Does this seem like a reasonable turnaround time?

I've had "domain talk" added to 4 of my names. They all compare my name to a lighthouse. Apparently Ai likes lighthouses & the color orange. This was my concern when this was first discussed by @Atom.com - it will get cumbersome for the user if the "domain talks" are all similar. Just letting you know so you can update the talks to spread out the analogies.

Domain Talk arrived on some of my names, too.
I must say I'm impressed. The pleasant female voice paints a vision of domain usage in poetic language. It's almost literature to me, a short story. I like this approach in a world of mathematics and logic, numbers and rules.

I guess domain talk is a matter of taste, but it should definitely be preserved in this narrative form.

I'm not arguing against it. I'm arguing for variety from it.

I wanted to reference your post, but not argue against it. Content diversity is good if possible, agreed.

Check out the "Domain Talk" for the domain BiggerYou. com .

That was pretty good. The voice was nice, and I liked the switching from the domain name, to the photo, and back again. I did not time it, but I thought it was just a little bit too long (maybe 5-10 seconds too long). Near the end I was like "how long is this going to go?"

NOTE: But that could be I was there just checking out the feature -- if I'm an actual end-user maybe the duration was just fine...
