Unstoppable Domains โ€” Expired Auctions

Atom / Atom.com - Marketplace (formerly Squadhelp)

Hey Folks,

I've just started using squadhelp.com to list some of my brandable. So far I have 76 domains listed, there is no fee to list. I've had some decent action so far in the way of interested buyers but no sales as of yet. I've only been with them for 1 week now.

A bit of a summary review of SquadHelp:

PROS
  • No Listing fee
  • No Logo design fee
  • Ability to submit your names to end users holding naming contests
  • Ability to chat directly or send a message directly to end users.
  • Stats of your marketplace domains are shown in the marketplace dashboard.
  • Their customer service and support has been great, 24hr a day chat.
  • Ability to increase or decrease the list price of your domains or to show a discount. You can decrease or increase the price yourself by $200. If you want to lower more, you can contact support.
  • End users can shortlist your domains before they make a decision on which they want to purchase. The number of shortlists is shown in you marketplace dashboard.
  • When you submit your names you get to set the price you wish to get. Because their commissions are high I recommend listing at a higher price to offset the commission costs.
  • Their landing pages are fairly basic but they work. Because the marketplace is fairly new, I'm sure we will see style improvements in the future.
  • One thing I really like is they accept multiple extensions. I have listed .co and .io along with .com
  • Each seller gets a direct link to their marketplace portfolio, HERES MY PORTFOLIO. It is handy if your trying to p[promote your portfolio through social media.
  • I like that their marketplace doesn't have tens of thousands domain listings like BB. They are fairly strict on the domains they accept to list and so this helps keep the number of domains in the marketplace down and gets your listings more exposure.
CONS
  • Their commissions are very high, depending on the domain name they are usually between 30% and 35%. However, there are no listing fees, no logo design fees, so in the end their commission is very similar to brand buckets.
  • Their logos are not top quality, in fact I requested to have some of my logos remade.
  • I think they have a big backlog of logos to design, the wait time for logo design has been around 1 week, but your names are still listed while the logos are being designed.
  • After your names are accepted you need to agree to their commission rate, at this point you also need to apply your own keywords, descriptions etc. I found this was very time consuming.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

This is interesting. Atom next?

BrandBucket CEO Margot Bushnaq:

" ... Afternicโ€™s insistence that the price shown on a domainโ€™s landing page needs to be the same as the Afternic list price."

Another disgusting move from the monopolistic monster. GD is doing everything they can to make people hate them.

I presume Atom will be affected by this decision soon.

Are all those names using Atom Name Servers?
At some point they were all pointing to Atom for a few weeks -- but I have been experimenting between ATOM and NamePros landing pages and moving names back and forth. Currently, about 85% of my names are pointing to ATOM.

@Atom.com

Why are discounts stuck at 4 days?

How does the ATOM Sedo-syndication work if I already have a bunch of names listed in my own Sedo account? Does Sedo remove them from my Sedo Account and put them into the Atom-Sedo account? If the names stay in my Sedo account, can I still price names differently at Sedo vs. Atom?

The domains are transferred from your Sedo account to the Atomโ€™s account at the same price set on Atom.

Atom lists the domains with a markup.

It depends on their status at Atom: for Standard and Plus listings you can opt in or out of syndication on your Settings dashboard. Premium, I understand, are automatically switched to Atom's account on Sedo with a markup.

Correction: the section for handling this is called "Syndication&Api" and you can find it on the left-side menu, @DN_Hunter

Thanks everyone on the Syndication info -- I did turn it on about an hour ago but still waiting for the "magic" to happen. The names are still in my own SEDO account, and I guess they will remove them soon and add the BIN prices I had at Atom (with a markup).

NOTE: I am curious what price they will markup. This morning I added discounts (10% to 20%) across all of my priced domain names at Atom. Will they markup the new "Sale Price", or the original BIN Price before the discount?

Here's what I am seeing

First, all of my names are Standard listings at Atom.
The syndication page told me I had 1,441 names eligible for Sedo syndication
I already had about 1,000 names in my own Sedo account

The process seems to have added any names that were not already in my Sedo account. So maybe the "conflicts" will be handled separately (the names that already existed in my own Sedo account)?

My markup question above was which price at Atom would they use as the "base" The original BIN, or the sale price after the discount I added this morning. I added the discounts a few hours before turning on the Sedo Syndication.

Example, Name at Atom right now:
BIN of 5,999 with a discount of $600 - so price on Atom shows $5,399 (the $5,999 is crossed out).
Current Sedo-syndication price is $7,099 -- so they appear to be marking up from original BIN of $5,999 and adding 18.33%

Of course now I have to wonder if it sells at Sedo for $7,099 -- will Atom give me
1) $5,999 - 7.5%
2) $5,399 - 7.5% ($5,399 is the current sale price on Atom)

They should consider bringing back the 4 tries per name

Wait a minute, are you saying that Atom jacks the price up at Sedo as a policy, and if sold at the higher price, then retains anything over the base price listed at Atom? That sounds wrong on multiple levels, and if true, why would anyone sign up for this?

After all, Atom really isn't doing anything other than cross-listing at Sedo.

Have you confirmed this with Atom, that they not only take their own commission, but skim the price increase at Sedo as well?

I actually don't know as this is all new to me.

But the way I am interpreting is Atom distributes my names with a markup of about 15% - 20%. This markup is intended to pay Sedo (or their distribution channel) their piece of the pie

Me as the seller on the Atom platform will get the Atom BIN minus the 7.5%

My question above is what will Atom use as the BIN ($5,999 or $5,399). They marked it up to Sedo based on the $5,999

Turn off sedo syndication for your standard listing. List the domains yourself.

If so, that's nuts and I thought it was more a way to make Atom a more attractive option, as BB does (until recently) with Afternic, by enforcing a premium price in order to co-list there.

If someone is skimming that 15-20% of your money on one specific marketplace (as opposed to an MLS with hundreds or thousands of partners), then I definitely agree.
