.asia domains

hello every one,
i have herd of the new .asia domains coming up. At the moment you can register your interest in a domain and bid for it. there is a domain that no one has touched yet and i would like to get it. .asia domains have a cost of $20usd a year with a minimum of two years.
Is there any other cost on top of this at all (eg confirmation of asia area resident etc,)

also does any one recommend any registers for the .asia domain.
(preferred if they accepted paypal)

You can register .asia from Webnic.cc or Eurodns. Webnic.cc is offering at USD 13 per year while Eurodns is offering at EUR 6 per year.

You need to have a presence in Asia to register .asia. I heard that Webnic.cc is offering USD 10 for Asia local presence but I'm not sure how much Eurodns is offering for Asia local presence. I suggest u to check with them on the total cost before making your purchase.

I have a presence in Asia, therefore don't need their local presence service.

I'd love someone to articulate their point of view on the value of this extension thoughtfully. Asia is a fiction, it doesn't exist. There isn't a single place on earth that calls itself "asia" thinks of itself as "asia". The part of the map we superficially call "asia" is comprised of countries with significant differences in history and culture who would much rather build up their national identities than to surrender it to some larger contrived western fiction called "asia".

If I were buying a .asia domain, I would restrict myself to the kind of domains white people would look for when reaching for something asian:

instantnoodles.asia
submissivewomen.asia
chinesefood.asia

and so on....you see where I am coming from here.

I guess if you read the press release from DotAsia you can get a pretty good idea why anyone would be interested in .asia. It is not directly my point of view but it is pretty clearly articulated

People have been looking into this for a long time and ICANN accepted it. Those who are nay sayers on the extension are pretty much missing the boat. IMHO. Tell yourself all day long that asia doesn't exist and Dotasia will disagree with you. I saw it on the internet. .asia is an extension so it must exist! :D

The monster.com website listed about 300 names that started with the term ‘Asia’ on its online company database for US companies. The amazon.com site listed more than 900 entries when searching “Asia” under the magazine category, and over 200,000 entries in books.

DotAsia.org (i believe) a "rip people off" company.. was reading a thread the other day.. I need to find the thread and website saying this.. They scammed thousands of people's money.
