Correct. However, I think if you currently own these .US domains it would be MUCH more difficult to be objective in this area. And of course there are exceptions to every rule. But from my experience it is better as a general rule to avoid ccTLDs altogether.
In my opinion these .US types of domains will suffer terrifically as the Great Domain Shakeout™ occurs in the coming months and years.
No, not if you have good names. You also have to consider how much you can get the name for. If you can sell it for more than you paid (total), profit, very simple.
