Are there any Patterns to Verisign's TV Re-Pricing?

Here is what I know, but I have not followed the drops as closely as some here have.

All dropped tv's that are even halfway decent are always repriced usually aroung $450 - $4500 but most times, Verisigns most popular price-tag is $1200.

Of course the stellar names such as Sports have gone as high as $50k. Makes sense.

Now I have also seen something very interesting...

I have a list of possible "to reg" TV's, that are all "Reg Fee". Every once in a while I will go back to my list and reg a couple. Even those are getting repriced now!

Another Question...
Has anyone actually seen a price-tag go down on a Premium re-priced TV domain? I believe I have just by a few dollars, and that was only the day after a Premium was dropped. So lets say it dropped on Friday and was priced at $1250, then Saturday it went down to $1198 and then stayed at that price....something like that. There was definitely a pricedrop but way too little of an increment for me to even remember.

I am simply trying to get a grip on this confusing procedure and hopefully figure out some sort of pattern if there even is any???

Thanks in advance,
Vito

Almost all were re-priced at approx 10% off about a week ago. You need to talk (by phone) with Deborah Burditt, head of premium sales @ Enom. She will answer all your questions.

Most of the domains I have on my list back to march 2010 still have the same price. The re-pricing policy of Verisign hasn't changed either - just because some names are regfee now doesn't mean they are regfee 3 weeks from now. Verisign seems to "upgrade" .TV's from reg fee to low $xxx from time to time. Could be related to trends or a upgrade of the "premium list" as more names from that same list are registered.

In the end it's just another way for Verisign to make money.

I was just hoping someone noticed some sort of pattern that I wasn't able to notice.

Looks like there are no noticable patterns to others here also.

Basically Verisign is JUST like me, but on a little bit larger of a scale :)

Somedays they price their domains lower, and sometimmes much higher...all depends on how they feel that day I guess. LOL

Thx for your replys.

One pattern that I see repeated over and over again is the company's attempt to increase margins and maximize revenue over the short term.

This is interesting since a short-term strategy could indicate a planned exit in the near future. With the ongoing crisis in Egypt, one must begin to wonder about the stability of ccTLDs in general.

It does appear that somewhere on a chalk board at corporate headquarters is 'the writing on the wall' so to speak. To ignore the possibility of an existing exit strategy could prove catastrophic. IMO.

Greg, Call it Capitalism/Free Enterprise, whatever. It all boils down to the same thing.
Sure, We all want to maximize our own revenues over the short term...The faster the better as far as I'm concerned.

Funny you mention the crisis in Egypt.
This is going to be a GREAT example for me to display using this exact piece of World News.

First, 5 years from now is a LONG LONG time away.

Where was Twitter 5 years ago?
Nowhere.
Well because of Tweeting and the power of Social Networks...Today the History of the world changed for the better by The President of Egypt (Mubarek) resigning today.

Is this a World Crisis as you mentioned? No definitely not. Its a celebration of a freed people that otherwise could have taken another 30 years.

So, what happens in 5 years, we have no friggen clue. Everything is moving at the speed of light now. Worrying about the stability of cctlds now would be like worrying about what the price of gas is gonna be in 5 years because I might not be able to fill up my tank if it goes to $1000 a gallon.

It just seems like a waste of everyones time and energy to worry about things that far off since nothing like that has ever happened before.

There is so much money to be made with ALL tld's that I'm sure that all of the powers that be will make it available to purchase forever! LOL

As for my original question here of any patterns to their pricing. I was lucky enough to get a few tips from some friends but nothing too ground-breaking though because my best deals are still purchasing thru the Aftermarket to tell you the truth.

ENOM had a 10% of special - this is what I think you saw. The actual wholesale pricing is set by Verisign.

As for the question?

Seems to me that if it was premium and they don't know? $1200.

Others seem random. Baby was $13K? Sports $50K and then some major GEOs $4K and others < $1K.

LLL are $450+ but they throw an odd one in for Manos at $50.

Some first names $1000 some $regular reg fee.

Wouldn't be surprised if it was based on natural inquiries through the whois ups the value :) With the odd sweetener to maintain interest.

I'm curious to see if last years "non-premiums" will get "re-premiumed".

It doesn't appear so based on name.com's backorder price but that may be purely down to it will be the first time through again.

Who knows?

Not really. One of the many problems with your analogy is that a company won't have a million+ invested in a single car.

Worrying about the stability of cctlds now would be like worrying about what the price of gas is gonna be in 5 years because I might not be able to fill up my tank if it goes to $1000 a gallon.

The problem with the TV cctld is the fact that the real possibility exists that the island's ruler could one day decide that he no longer wants yanks registering his Country's domain or worse. This would leave the registrant of a .TV domain in a precarious position.

In my view, the .TV is best positioned as a secondary vanity domain and should NEVER be the primary domain for any business entity due to the nature of the cctld. IMO.

My analogy might be bad but I will fine tune it later.
No time to respond tonight...doing dinner and a movie shortly.
Ill pick this conversation back up over the weekend some time.

Yeah especially at first names repricing seems random.
Same day drops, Adam.tv was regfee, Richard.tv $1300 something.
Geos also Beijing.tv $540, some small towns > $600

Adam.tv & Beijing.tv would've been nice pickups at that price. Whoever got those sure did get a nice deal!
